Vorderfalkau: Falkau Waterfall and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Vorderfalkau
At Falkau Waterfall, the Haslach plunges over two cascades into a basin. The Haslach is a right-bank tributary of the Wutach; at the waterfall, the river becomes a defining feature of the landscape. Steps and pools give this natural attraction a distinct shape. Together with its named hiking trails, Vorderfalkau offers concrete points of interest for anyone who likes to combine their stay with water and outdoor activity.
Waterfall and trails as highlights for a day out
The Vorderfalkau Interest Group has revived the historic Falkau Waterfall Trail. A municipal notice dated November 10, 2025, reported that the trail had reopened. Subsequent weather damage may affect its condition, so check the local situation before setting out.
The hiking route “From Neustadt (Black Forest) via Hochfirst to Feldberg-Altglashütten” reaches Vorderfalkau via the Lenzkircher Weg. From the “Vorderfalkau” trail junction, a short detour leads down to Falkau Waterfall. This describes both a longer named hiking route and a short detour to the cascades.
A hiking trail in the Vorderfalkau area is currently closed because it has been washed away and is probably undermined as well. Check local conditions before setting out and plan according to the current trail status.
A quieter option is the foot-watering facility at the Falkau spa grounds, which offers refreshment and relaxation. Alongside the hiking trails, you can therefore choose a dedicated way to unwind as well as experiences at the waterfall.
Before the Haslach Bridge, the Schwarzbachweg follows the banks of the Haslach to the riding stable in Mittelfalkau. Compared with the short detour down to the waterfall, it offers a different focus: here, the riverside route and the named destination in Mittelfalkau define the trail. Depending on your interests, you can choose between the cascades and a route along the riverbank.
More nature experiences in the wider destination of Feldberg (Black Forest)
In the wider destination of Feldberg (Black Forest), the Wichtelpfad is an approximately 1.8-kilometer loop through the forest of the Feldberg Nature Reserve. It combines nature experiences with stories and interesting facts about the increasingly rare capercaillie. This gives it a different focus from Falkau Waterfall: the forest trail combines nature with storytelling, while the cascades and basin take center stage at the waterfall.
At the House of Nature, an interactive permanent exhibition presents the Feldberg Nature Reserve in a humorous way and is aimed at all age groups. A child carrier backpack can be borrowed there for younger children. If you need one, check availability on site.
The Feldberg cable car takes visitors quickly and comfortably up Feldberg, the region’s highest peak. Its seasonal operating schedule may vary, so check it if you are planning a ride. The Wichtelpfad, exhibition and cable car thus complement the range of nature and educational experiences in the wider destination of Feldberg (Black Forest).
