Hilzhofen offers several specific ways to experience the Kuppenalb landscape: golf on an 18-hole championship course, a signposted circular hiking trail and a landscaped viewpoint at the Juradistl landscape viewing point. There are also two cross-country ski trails starting in Hilzhofen. When planning your accommodation, it may therefore be important whether golf, a hiking route, views of the landscape or a cross-country ski trail is the focus of your trip. The offerings have different emphases and give you specific points of reference for choosing Hilzhofen to suit your travel interests.

Golf in Hilzhofen: two different options

The Jura Golf Park’s 18-hole championship course is located in Hilzhofen. Set in the Jura landscape, it offers views across hills and valleys, meadows and trees, as well as forest clearings and shrubs. The scenic views are therefore part of the course’s appeal. The course operates seasonally, and a tee time reservation is required for the championship course.

The Jura Golf Park Academy has a public 9-hole course in Hilzhofen. Neither a DGV course certificate nor club membership is required to use it. However, players must first take three individual coaching lessons or a beginners’ course. The two golf options thus differ both in size—18 holes at the championship course and nine at the academy—and in the academy’s explicitly stated requirements. If golf is to be the focus of your trip, you can take these differences into account when choosing accommodation.

A viewpoint and a circular route through the Kuppenalb

The Juradistl landscape viewing point lies about 400 metres outside Hilzhofen. Access is through a short wooden tunnel leading to 25 fixed seats made of wood and iron, arranged in a semicircle like a small amphitheatre. From here, you can look out over distinctive dolomite peaks and the grazed limestone grasslands of Schanzberg. The seating arrangement and the view make this a different kind of stop from a hiking route: the focus here is on the landscape.

If you would rather plan a circular walk, there is a signposted hiking trail of around ten kilometres through the Kuppenalb landscape. It links Habsberg, Unterwiesenacker and Hilzhofen. Along the route, information boards cover landscape conservation, Juradistl lamb and pilgrimage routes. This circular walk is therefore about more than connecting the three places; the topics along the way also draw attention to the landscape, its conservation and the pilgrimage routes.

Hilzhofen’s former water supply is also covered on the Kuppenalb hiking trail. The village’s hydraulic ram, known as a “Widder,” has been reinstalled as an exhibit. This historical aspect adds a specific connection to the village’s former water supply to the circular walk’s themes.

Two cross-country ski trails starting in Hilzhofen

Both of the cross-country ski trails mentioned start at the car park of the Landgasthof Meier in Hilzhofen. The classic Hilzhofen trail runs across the Hilzhofen golf course and is signposted “Nordic Zentrum Neumarkt-Hilzhofen.” The Habsberg trail is 7.6 kilometres long. The descriptions highlight different details: the classic trail’s route and signage are specified, while the Habsberg trail’s length is given. If you are planning a cross-country skiing trip, you should take current snow conditions into account.

Hilzhofen’s offerings range from a round of golf and a themed, signposted circular trail to a single viewpoint and cross-country ski trails.
