Kleinwinklarn: Church, Streams and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Kleinwinklarn
Kleinwinklarn combines distinctive church architecture with trails that follow streams into the landscape around Lake Eixendorf. This means your trip planning can focus on both a specific cultural landmark and a range of nature and hiking experiences. When looking for accommodation in Kleinwinklarn, you can first decide whether local history, waterways and trails, or the destination of Neunburg vorm Wald should be your main focus.
Church and event venue
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Kleinwinklarn was built in 1905. The apse contains a life-size statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Sudeten German sculptor Karl Mauermann, dating from 1946. To the left of the choir is a sculpture of Saint Joseph, and to the right, a Madonna. Instead of a tower, the church has a roof turret—a tower-like structure on the roof. The building thus brings together a distinctive exterior feature and several sculptural works inside.
The village community center is also relevant for events: the sponsoring association rents out or makes its premises available to anyone interested in holding events.
Hiking trails and waterways
The Oberpfälzer Seenweg trail follows the Atzenbach directly to Kleinwinklarn, where places to stop for refreshments are available. The route continues through the forest toward Stetten and Gütenland and follows the southern shore of Lake Eixendorf to the Wutzschleife. The Neunburger Goldsteig loop is a three-day tour that passes Kleinwinklarn on its way toward Gütenland. While the Seenweg is defined by its sequence of stream, forest, villages and lakeshore, the Goldsteig loop is a multi-day tour.
The named fishing waters can also be distinguished by their stream courses and endpoints. The section along the Stettnerbach runs from the Kleinwinklarn junction to Stettnermühle. The section along the Rötzerbach runs upstream from Dorfmühle to the Kleinwinklarn junction, where the Stettnerbach begins. These are two named stretches of water, each with its own endpoints.
Neunburg vorm Wald as a regional highlight
In Neunburg vorm Wald, the Schwarzachtaler Local History Museum has been housed since 1980 in the historic rooms of the former city palace. In the 15th century, the palace was a residence of the Wittelsbach counts palatine. With a total exhibition area of 1,000 square meters, the museum introduces visitors to the history and culture of the city of Neunburg vorm Wald and the Schwarzach Valley in 18 rooms and a lapidarium—from its beginnings through the postwar period.
The GOLDSTEIG premium hiking trail runs directly through Neunburg vorm Wald. At Lake Eixendorf, a hiking trail loops around the entire lake, and a cycle path follows its southern shore. The Neunburg yacht club also offers sailing on the lake. The region’s activities thus include hiking and route options as well as an activity on the water.
The Neunburg vorm Wald adventure outdoor pool has a heated swimming pool measuring 26 °C and 33.3 meters long, as well as a non-swimmer pool with two slides measuring 55 and 12 meters. Massage jets, a current channel, a children’s paddling pool, a water mushroom and a heated indoor area complement the pool facilities. The grounds also have table tennis tables, a beach volleyball court, a soccer field and a basketball area.
Another highlight in the destination of Neunburg vorm Wald is the “Fish” adventure educational trail. Along the route, Eixi introduces visitors to other fish found in Lake Eixendorf and the Schwarzach; there are also several skill stations. The viewing hatch in the wooden carp “Eixi” is seven meters high.
