Krummennaab: Nature, Water and History
Accommodation in Krummennaab
Krummennaab lies between Steinwald Nature Park and the Waldnaab Valley. The town brings nature experiences, trails and traces of history together: swimming is the main attraction at Erlenweiher, while the Bankerlrunde offers a longer hiking option. There are also the remains of Trautenberg Castle and two churches with a special history of shared use. If you are looking for suitable accommodation for your stay, you can start by considering whether water, outdoor activities or culture will shape your days.
Water and family time at Erlenweiher
The Erlenweiher bathing lake covers almost 1.8 hectares and offers swimming in a natural body of water. A designated non-swimmer area and several pieces of play equipment for children round out the facilities; for families, these offer practical guidance when planning a day out. Swimming conditions may vary; check the current situation before your visit. The Treibholz beach café is next to the bathing area and serves drinks and snacks. Opening hours and offerings may change; check whether the café is open before your visit.
Getting around on foot and by bike
The waymarked Bankerlrunde is a circular trail over 10 km long through the landscape of the southern Steinwald Nature Park, within the municipality of Krummennaab. It passes through Stockau on its way to Krummennaab and can also be started in the town centres of Krummennaab or Thumsenreuth. At more than ten kilometres, it is an option if you are planning a longer hike. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
A cycle path starts in Krummennaab at the junction with the Fichtelnaab Cycle Route and leads towards Windischeschenbach. Bürgerpark is on the site of a former porcelain factory, beside the Fichtelnaab Cycle Route. It has loungers and Smartflower solar flowers that generate electricity. There are several ways to enjoy the outdoors: a longer circular hike, a cycle connection towards Windischeschenbach, and a park beside the cycle path.
Castle and church history
The ruins of Trautenberg Castle lie northeast of Krummennaab. Rubble mounds are still visible from the buildings that once stood there; the neck ditch and part of the shield wall have also survived. These traces give the castle a tangible presence as a historic ruin.
The churches offer another historical perspective: St. Leonhard in Krummennaab and St. Ägidius in Thumsenreuth were simultaneous churches from 1663 until 1930 and 1935, respectively. During this period, the two major Christian denominations used both churches jointly and in alternation. The visible structural remains of the castle thus stand alongside a history of shared church use.
Culture and dining in the wider destination of Tirschenreuth

At the MuseumsQuartier, visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. The regular programme includes special exhibitions, lectures, readings and concerts. If you are interested, check the dates of individual events in advance.
