Plattenhardt combines protected natural monuments with traces of its local history. A Late Gothic church, a fountain dating from the early 18th century and archaeological evidence offer various points of historical interest. The Serigraphy Museum, weekly market and hiking trails on the Uhlberg add art, regional products and nature experiences.

Local History in Buildings and Archaeological Sites

The Protestant Antholianuskirche preserves the foundations of two predecessor churches. The choir and sacristy belong to a hall church built in the Late Gothic style around 1480; the nave was built in 1521. The church is listed as stop 4 on the Plattenhardt Historical Trail. Several construction phases can be distinguished here.

The Pfarrhaus-Brunnen is a stone fountain trough dating from 1723 and is considered the oldest surviving fountain on the Filder Plain. The community bakehouse in Plattenhardt was built in 1844 and renovated in 1982 by the Plattenhardt association council. Both buildings add further local landmarks with specific dates to the church’s history.

The castle of the Lords of Plattenhardt once stood at the corner of Römerstraße and Panoramastraße; remains of the castle moats are still visible. The stone crosses on Mörikestraße are expiatory crosses or memorial stones from the 15th century. Around 20 Celtic burial mounds, still visible today, are located in Weilerhau and were built around 500 BC. The Peace Linden tree there is also a natural monument. Another monument commemorates Jacob Brodbeck, an aviation pioneer born in Plattenhardt.

Serigraphy in a Former Factory Building

The Filderstadt Serigraphy Museum is located in part of the former Mack & Schneider hosiery factory in the Plattenhardt district. It is based on the “Domberger Collection – A Screen Printing Collection of the State of Baden-Württemberg.” The collection and the former factory building give the museum a distinctive cultural and historical setting.

In the museum workshop, visitors can screen-print a colourful design onto a postcard. Check before your visit whether this activity is currently available.

Nature, Walks and Regional Products

The Bärensee in Plattenhardt is a protected natural monument. In the wider destination of Filderstadt, it lies on the edge of the Schönbuch forest in Filderstadt-Plattenhardt and is a good place for a walk around the lake. A small wooded island lies in the middle of the water; the Bärensee is considered a popular place to enjoy peace and quiet in nature.

Hiking trails lead from the Uhlberg through the Schaichtal valley to Schönbuch Nature Park. The kiosk at the Uhlberg Tower is about a 20-minute walk from the Plattenhardt hiking car park. It serves hot and cold drinks as well as regional specialities. Opening hours and refreshments may change; check before your visit whether the kiosk is open and what is available.

The weekly market in Plattenhardt takes place in front of the town hall on Saturdays and offers fresh regional and seasonal products. The selection at individual stalls may vary.

Filderstadt in a Wider Context

Beyond Plattenhardt, Filderstadt offers a broader cultural and historical perspective: a historical trail runs through all five districts and includes a total of 80 stops. For regional travel, Filderstadt is connected to Stuttgart’s S-Bahn network and is therefore easy to reach by train. Check the current timetable for your travel dates.

If you would also like to explore the wider Filderstadt area, you can include the trail through the five districts and the regional rail connections in your plans. This lets you choose where to stay according to the themes you want to shape your visit.
