Hiking trails, traces of history and the parish church of St. Oswald give Mindersdorf a multifaceted character. Several routes start in the village or pass through it. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose whether to get to know Mindersdorf primarily through its architectural history, as a starting point for a hike or as part of the wider Hohenfels destination.

Church and historical traces

The neo-Gothic parish church of St. Oswald in Mindersdorf was built from 1847 onward. Its tower dates from the 15th century. The building therefore brings together two different periods: the older tower and the neo-Gothic church, construction of which began later.

Roman history is also part of the village’s story. A Roman estate, known as a villa rustica, was discovered in Mindersdorf in the 1980s. The term refers to a Roman estate and adds a much earlier historical trace to the church’s architectural history. Another perspective is offered by the historic route from Lake Constance via Stockach and Göggingen to Ulm, on which Mindersdorf was an important stop.

The Bauernkapelle Mindersdorf is part of the local cultural tradition: it is a Bohemian brass band from Mindersdorf, founded in 1965. The church, Roman history, historic route and musical tradition each add their own distinctive touch, making the village’s history accessible in different ways.

Hikes with different landscapes

The hiking trail from Mindersdorf to Deutwang runs south across the Rosenwiesen meadows and the 692 m-high Pfeifferberg to the Steighöfe viewpoint. The 692 m-high Pfeifferberg is a distinctive landmark on the way to the Steighöfe viewpoint. When planning your hike, this route provides a specific reference point for choosing your day’s destination.

The Via Beuronensis pilgrimage stage from Wald to Stockach offers another option. It passes through the centre of Mindersdorf, continues through the Rosenwiesen meadows and follows a marked hiking trail with yellow diamond blazes to Steighöfe. This lets you compare the Mindersdorf–Deutwang route with a stage that includes Mindersdorf as a stop between Wald and Stockach.

Mindersdorf connects to the Meßkirch–Lake Constance long-distance hiking trail via the field path to Eichwald. In the wider Hohenfels destination, this long-distance trail is marked with a blue diamond. The routes described differ in their course and waymarking; before setting out, you can check the latest route details and trail markers.

More nature and culture in the Hohenfels destination

The wider Hohenfels destination also includes nature and culture beyond Mindersdorf’s local history. The Waltere Moor nature reserve lies on the northwestern edge of the Hohenfels municipal area and borders the Schwackenreuter Seen nature reserve. It lies in a shallow depression at an elevation of around 630 m above sea level. The landscape includes wet woodland as well as smaller, open fen meadows and dry grassland areas.

Waltere Moor covers about 95 ha. Around two-thirds lie within Hohenfels; the rest is in the Sauldorf municipal area in Sigmaringen district.

Another attraction in the wider Hohenfels destination is the Lebensraum-Garten Hohenfels. A series of events takes place there every year during the summer months, including concerts, readings, themed events and children’s theatre in the willow pavilion or outdoors. Event dates may vary; if a particular event is important to your trip, check the dates in advance.
