Bad Griesbach lies in the narrow valley of the upper Rench, where the Griesbächle flows into it. The waterfalls of Bad Griesbach are surrounded by wild, unspoilt nature. Together with a walk along the Rench and the summer ski jumps, they create a picture that combines landscape and movement.

Walks, a treasure hunt and ski jumps

The walk between Bad Peterstal and Bad Griesbach runs all the way along the Rench and is also suitable for a stroller. If you do not want to walk back, you can take the bus or train. Check the timetable in advance if you are planning to return this way.

For families, the fairy-tale treasure hunt starts at Weiherplatz in Bad Griesbach. It is recommended year-round; check local conditions before setting out. The two summer ski jumps add a sporting highlight, allowing jumps of up to 60 and 30 metres, respectively. International competitions are also held there.

Church architecture and a spring temple

St. Anthony’s Church in Bad Griesbach has a rectangular, Neo-Gothic nave with five bays and two small chapels made of Buntsandstein sandstone. The five bays divide the long nave, while the chapels add their own distinctive touch in terms of material and form. Those interested in architecture will find a specific architectural feature here, rather than simply a view of the town.

Another named building in Bad Griesbach is the “Schwarzwaldquelle” spring temple of Schwarzwald Sprudel. Alongside the valley and waterfalls, the church and spring temple give the town cultural and architectural points of interest.

In the wider destination of Bad Peterstal-Griesbach, the Himmelssteig trail leads from the outdoor pool in Bad Peterstal up to the Himmelsbar. This difficult circular hike is 10.8 kilometres long and involves 414 metres of ascent and descent. Stops along the way include a 22.5-metre-long white fir bench, designed refreshment stations and several Himmelsbänke benches for breaks. In contrast to the difficult circular hike, the walk between Bad Peterstal and Bad Griesbach is also suitable for a stroller.

The Himmelssteig offers a place to rest at the Holchen waterfall; from there, a steep section climbs up to the Himmelsfelsen rock. The Pirschpfad takes a different approach: information stations teach visitors about local flora and fauna, and there is also a long-jump station for animals and a forest xylophone. Check the current availability of these attractions before your visit.
