Discover Herrischried
Accommodation in Herrischried
Herrischried offers a range of ways to plan a stay: walking circuits, leisure activities at the sports and leisure centre, and a historic farm with a glass workshop. You can plan your visit around your preferred route length, history and craftsmanship, or individual activities.
Walking circuits and trails
The Hotzenwald Nordic Walking Centre offers three walking circuits of 4, 6 and 9 km. The 4 km circuit is the shortest and the 9 km circuit the longest, with the 6 km route in between. This range gives you a clear point of comparison when deciding how long a circuit you would like for your outing. There is also a barefoot path alongside the foot-soaking pool—a different way to connect with the area through movement than following a set circuit.
The Murgtal Trail connects the municipalities of Murg, Rickenbach and Herrischried. This gives it a different focus from the walking circuits: the distance in kilometres helps you compare circuit lengths, while the connection between the three municipalities is the defining feature here. So when choosing, it helps to ask a simple question: are you looking for a circuit based on its length, or would you like to include the Murgtal Trail as a route connecting several municipalities? This comparison can help you plan your route around your interests.
Klausenhof: building history and craftsmanship
The Klausenhof in Herrischried-Großherrischwand dates back to 1424. Its residential and agricultural sections are combined under one roof. This shared building form brings the two functions together in one complex and makes the interplay of living and working a distinctive architectural feature. The farm stood uninhabited for a long time and was saved from further decay. Its history therefore includes not only its date of origin, but also its long period of vacancy and the building’s rescue.
The glass workshop is located right beside the Klausenhof. Visitors can watch the glassmaker at work and, under his expert guidance, try the traditional craft for themselves. Watching and trying it out are two different ways to take part: you can follow the work process or get hands-on yourself. Check the current visitor arrangements before planning your workshop visit.
Leisure at the sports and leisure centre
Herrischried Sports and Leisure Centre has two tennis courts. Rackets and balls are available to rent on site, making it easier to plan your equipment; check current access to the courts and rental availability before your visit. An adventure playground is located right next to the mini-golf course.
Another glimpse of history: Waldshut
The destination of Waldshut also has a historic connection to transport: the ferry service between Waldshut and Switzerland has been operating for more than 600 years. This is distinct from Herrischried’s history of farming and craftsmanship, and adds another historical topic to explore in the region.
