In Burladingen, hiking trails and cycling routes meet special natural sites and cultural offerings. A section of the Albsteig passes through the town; elsewhere, the weather and time of year determine what you can experience outdoors. Guided walks, theatre and activities for children are also possible topics to consider when planning your trip.

Hiking trails and cycling routes for a range of tours

The seven circular hiking trails each have a different focus: they range from trekking and leisurely walks to themed excursions and options for families and people with limited mobility. Along the way, the routes pass caves, ruins and viewpoints, and follow the Lauchert. The twelfth stage of the Albsteig provides another point of reference: it runs from Willmandingen through Burladingen to Jungingen.

There are also various options for longer cycling tours. The Alb-Crossing route crosses the Swabian Alb. For cyclists travelling in stages, the ADFC-quality cycling routes Schwäbische Alb Radweg and Hohenzollernradweg are among the options. Mountain bikers will find freeride and downhill trails at Bike Park Burladingen. In winter, ski lifts and cross-country ski trails add to the sporting options. You can therefore plan your trip around hiking, cycling stages, mountain biking or winter sports.

KornbĂĽhl and natural sites with their own rhythms

At 886 metres, KornbĂĽhl in Burladingen-Salmendingen is a witness mountain in the Swabian Alb UNESCO Global Geopark. The landscape also includes the Salmendingen St. Anna Chapel. For a cycling tour around the mountain, the 20.5-kilometre KornbĂĽhl Tour is a good option: it is described as an easy family route and includes a short climb around KornbĂĽhl.

Some natural destinations depend more heavily on the conditions. Below Kornbühl, the temporary Märzensee can form after heavy rain or snowmelt. When it appears and how long it remains cannot be predicted; as a photographic subject and a destination for hikers and recreational sports enthusiasts, it therefore calls for a different kind of planning than a signposted trail. The Salmendingen Waterfalls are also a seasonal natural phenomenon: when snow melts or after heavy rain, water flows over the calcareous tufa. In contrast, the Lauchert spring in Burladingen-Melchingen is the only tributary of the Lauchert that flows year-round.

Local history, theatre and experiences

On an evening guided night-watchman tour through Burladingen, visitors learn about local history on a walk through the town. The administrative history dates back to 1544, when the Burladingen district office was established. Burladingen Roman Fort is also part of the town’s history, though it is not visible as an open-air site. Information boards in the car park on the B 32 explain its history and significance.

The Höllenstein karst cave contains prehistoric finds from the late Celtic period. To protect the bats, from mid-November to mid-April the cave should only be viewed from the outside. In Burladingen-Melchingen, Theater Lindenhof is a regional theatre and stages performances there. Check current performances and showtimes before your trip.

For activities with children, the Weilerwiesen adventure playground in Burladingen-Melchingen has the Burg Hohenmelchingen climbing and play structure and a children’s dirt bike track. Alpakaglück Melchingen offers guided alpaca walks through the Alb countryside; check dates and availability in advance. This gives you a choice of different experiences: an outdoor activity to enjoy together, a guided evening tour through the town or a theatre visit.

Find accommodation to suit your travel plans

When looking for accommodation in Burladingen, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: hiking and cycling stages, natural sites that depend on the weather, or cultural offerings with a performance schedule. Families can include the Weilerwiesen playground and the KornbĂĽhl Tour, specifically designated as a family route, among their excursion ideas. This way, your search can focus on the experiences you want to make central to your stay.
