Woodland and moorland lakes, trails through nature and views of the Allgäu Alps define Görisried. The area also has historic churches and chapels, as well as outdoor activities ranging from circular trails to cycling tours. If you are looking for accommodation in Görisried, you can plan your stay around whether short walks, longer hikes, cycling or local history are your priority.

Moorland and trails around Görisried

The Moor Circular Trail starts in the town centre and passes through woodland and moorland close to the village. It returns across meadows with panoramic views of the Alps. There is more to discover in the landscape: a protected landscape area contains extensive moorland reserves and wetlands. Rare orchid species, flowers, herbs and butterflies can be found there. The Dengelstein in Kempter Forest is a nearby natural landmark associated with local legends; local tales and myths surround the large Nagelfluh rock formation.

Trail lengths and approximate durations offer practical guidance for planning: the Hohenberg Circular Trail is about 3 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour. From the viewpoint, you can see Görisried, the districts of Staig and Hasenmahd, and the mountains. A longer option is the Neuwald-Buchwald Circular Trail, at 12 kilometres and approximately 3½ hours. It follows forest tracks through the woods, alongside small streams and across flower meadows. The Wildberger-Hof Circular Trail covers 10 kilometres and takes approximately 2¾ hours; its gravel forest track leads to a viewpoint near Wildberg.

The hike to Kälberschächele can also be described in numbers: it is about 7 kilometres long and takes approximately 2¼ hours. On the hilltop there is a wayside cross, a bench and a hiking car park; on a clear day, the view extends across the Alpine chain. The Mühlhalde Circular Trail starts at the church square in the town centre. It follows the Waldbach and Mühlbach streams past the outdoor pool and goes directly through the nature discovery trail. The Kempter Forest Circular Trail also starts in the town centre, passes through Kempter Forest and returns to Görisried via the Beilstein Alpine pasture.

Cycling routes by distance and elevation gain

Three cycling routes start and finish in Görisried. The Northern Kempter Forest Route is 24.8 kilometres long with 330 metres of elevation gain. The Northern Wertach Valley Route covers 25.9 kilometres and 270 metres of elevation gain. The Southern Wertach Valley Route is 34 kilometres long with 450 metres of elevation gain. This lets you compare the routes by their stated distances and elevation gains without equating the figures with an unsupported assessment of difficulty.

Churches, chapels and local history

The parish church of St. Oswald tells of a turning point in local history: the present building was constructed in Neo-Gothic style in 1848/49 after the older church was destroyed in the great fire of 1823. The Görisried Chapel Trail, a full-day tour, also starts here. On the edge of the village, in the direction of Stadels and Wildberg, stands St. Ursula Chapel with its plague cemetery. Built in 1681, it features a painted timber-panelled ceiling.

The hike to the suspension footbridge also starts at St. Ursula Chapel, where there is a car park. The trail descends through the Wertach Valley and crosses a small bridge to the suspension footbridge, which swings freely above the Wertach. Starting at the chapel and following the route to the footbridge gives this walk a different character from the circular trails that start in the town centre.

Natural swimming pool and outdoor activities

Behind the natural swimming pool, the nature discovery trail runs through a wooded area. Several stations offer interesting facts and insights about the forest and nature. There is also a free beach volleyball court right next to the pool, as well as a public table tennis table. The natural swimming pool is fed by spring water, uses no chlorine and is free of charge. Changing rooms and restroom facilities are available. As operating details may change seasonally, check the latest information about opening and operation before your visit.

Winter trails and seasonal activities

There are two circular cross-country ski trails to choose from, each with different features. The Hasenmahd trail is an easy, classically groomed loop of about 2 kilometres through Weihermoos and the district of Hasenmahd, with no significant climbs. The Neuwald trail is about 5.5 kilometres long and has both a classic track and a skating track. It includes moderate climbs and descents and runs through Schlegelmoos towards Stadels.

An ice and skating rink is located opposite the multipurpose hall on Waldbachstraße. Depending on the weather, the ice rink can be used from December or January. In summer, ramps and small goals are available for street hockey and ice hockey. The season and weather determine which of these activities are relevant to your plans.
