Nesselwang combines winter activities, outdoor pursuits and an exhibition on more than 100 years of ski history. Two cross-country ski loops, the adventure trail to the Nesselwang Waterfall and a 3D archery course are complemented by the mountain railway and rail-guided tobogganing. When planning your trip, you can therefore weigh up sporty days, nature experiences and culture. The key is deciding which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Cross-Country Trails and Mountain Railway

Nesselwang’s cross-country trail network consists of two loops and a floodlit trail. The Kappeler Loop and the Grüntensee Loop are groomed for both classic cross-country skiing and skating; operating conditions depend on snow conditions. The Alpspitzbahn Nesselwang takes passengers from the town up to an elevation of 1,500 metres. Its two combination lifts consist of 8-person gondolas and a 4-person chairlift.

Trail, Tobogganing and Archery

The adventure trail to the Nesselwang Waterfall is a forest trail with exposed roots. The route includes a steep section and metal steps; children also enjoy this trail. The AlpspitzCOASTER offers rail-guided tobogganing year-round, in both summer and winter. The 3D archery course at the Trendsportzentrum Allgäu in Nesselwang has 12 targets and can be completed as part of a short hike. As a seasonal outdoor activity, its availability depends on the weather and time of year.

Ski History and Summer Traditions

An exhibition on Nesselwang’s more than 100-year ski history features historic skis, certificates, display boards, trophies and medals. Topics range from the early days of skiing and the achievements of Nesselwang’s skiers to the beginnings of ski tourism in the market town. Culture is also part of summer: Nesselwang’s traditional costume association regularly hosts local heritage evenings with its various groups.

The Ostallgäu as a Regional Perspective

In the southwest, the mountains in the Ostallgäu district belong to the Vilser Gebirge; in the southeast, they belong to the Ammergebirge. At 2,082 metres, the Hochplatte is the highest mountain in the Ostallgäu. The region also offers further options for active days: the Ostallgäu Cycle Travel Region comprises regional routes that extend across the entire Ostallgäu. Each route is 25 to 76 kilometres long, consistently signposted and has its own theme. The Ostallgäu also has 32 local hiking routes that showcase special natural and cultural treasures in its towns and villages.

In the Ostallgäu, the Forggensee Cycle Route loops around the lake. At more than 15 km², Lake Forggensee is Bavaria’s fifth-largest lake and Germany’s largest reservoir. Forggensee boat trips run regularly during the summer season. These regional options complement the activities focused specifically on Nesselwang with cycling, hiking and lakeside experiences in the Ostallgäu.
