Seeg combines a unique world of bees with a landscape of lakes, moors, meadows and hills. It is also home to an important Rococo church and a local history museum that tells the story of the town from different perspectives. These varied highlights give you flexibility when planning your trip: you can learn about beekeeping, explore the outdoors or focus on cultural history.

Experience bees in Seeg

Guided tours of the Seeg Erlebnisimkerei (interactive beekeeping centre) cover bees, honey, bee products and the work of beekeepers; the adjoining bee house is included, too. There, you can watch bees at work. Visitors can also observe beekeepers at work at the Erlebnisimkerei and extract honey themselves. The experience ranges from watching to taking part.

Behind the building are the bee house and bee garden. A short outdoor path of around 50 metres leads there. Bees are also a feature in the town centre: a bee-themed trail with twelve stops runs through Seeg. The bee experience trail passes flower gardens, orchards and a pond, and leads to various play stations around Seeg. This offers different ways to enjoy the area, from learning about beekeeping to visiting outdoor stops.

The Erlebnisimkerei’s bee shop offers honey, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom and beeswax to sample and buy. If you are interested in the variety of bee products, you can combine a visit with a guided tour, observing bees in the bee house or extracting honey.

Lakes, moors and trails

Seeg’s landscape features views of the Alpine panorama, numerous lakes, ponds and other bodies of water, green meadows, forests and expansive hill ranges. The Moors and Lakes Loop takes you through the moor-rich landscape over meadows, through forests and past the Seeger lakes. Below Seeg’s St. Ulrich Church, hikers on this loop can use a telescope to observe the birds on the Seeger lakes.

Seeg has 144 kilometres of signposted hiking trails, which can also be explored with a GPS device. The region in and around Seeg offers another way to experience the landscape by bike, with opportunities for cycling, e-biking, mountain biking, road cycling and longer-distance touring. The Allgäu Scenic Viewpoints Route, around 120 kilometres long, starts and ends in Seeg; its first stage begins on Ladestraße, right next to the train station.

Rococo church and local history

St. Ulrich in Seeg is one of Bavaria’s most important Rococo churches. The local history museum focuses on the town’s past, with exhibits on crafts that have died out, the development of the dairy industry and beekeeping in our grandfathers’ day. The church and museum offer a different focus from the trails and the Erlebnisimkerei: here, the emphasis is on architecture and the development of local life.

When to visit and getting around

The time of year can also influence your choice of activities. In winter, Seeg has well-groomed cross-country ski trails and cleared winter hiking paths. In warmer weather, cycling and trails through the landscape are among the other options. When planning, you can start by deciding whether to focus on bee experiences, culture, hiking or cycling.

Bus routes 56 and 60 serve Seeg. Check the current timetable when planning your journey. If you are including the Allgäu Scenic Viewpoints Route, the first stage starts on Ladestraße, right next to Seeg train station. Route information gives the total distance as around 120 kilometres and Seeg as both the start and end point. This information can help you gauge how much time to allow for the route, without confusing it with the local hiking and bee-trail experiences.

Which of these aspects you give greater weight to can help guide your choice of the right location for your stay.
