Lixenried combines striking rock formations with hiking trails and village history. Above the village lies the Lixenried Rock Labyrinth, a rock massif reached by a winding path along a mountainside. Massive individual boulders, narrow passages and crawl-throughs shape the terrain up to the highest point of the GeiĂźriegel at 746 m. Anyone interested in unusual rocky landscapes will find a distinctive highlight here for a stay in Lixenried.

Rocky landscapes and trails around Lixenried

The signposted Fu24 circular hiking trail is called the Lixenried Rock Labyrinth. It starts and ends at the Lixenried Cemetery hiking car park and leads over the Geißriegel and Keilhöhe. The route is listed as 4.9 kilometres, with an estimated walking time of about 1.5 hours and 306 metres of elevation gain. The combination of distance, approximate duration and elevation gain provides a clear guide when planning your hiking day. Check the latest trail information before setting out.

Fu06, the Lixenried Trail, offers a different kind of route: It leads along the Eichertweg and the edge of the Grabitzer Berg forest, as well as past the “Kerschbaumriegel” hiking car park north of Ränkam and Kühberg, to the mountain village of Lixenried at an elevation of 534 m. The return journey follows the same route. This makes it easy to distinguish the trail from the Fu24 circular route: Fu06 retraces the outward route, while Fu24 returns to its starting point.

Village history and architectural styles

Church history and historic architectural styles are also central to Lixenried. The Maria Königin branch church belongs to the parish of Gleißenberg. It was consecrated in 1963, is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and celebrates its patronal feast on 22 August.

The village chapel of St. Bartholomew at Kirchenweg 3 is a gable-end building with a half-hipped gable roof, a roof turret with a pointed roof and plaster detailing. It dates from around 1750 and was altered around 1900. The Waldlerhaus at Kirchenweg 2 is a two-storey, gable-end building with a low-pitched gable roof and an upper storey built partly of timber and partly clad in boards. The house dates from the first half of the 19th century.

The history of the village also includes underground archaeological remains of the former early modern castle, preserved in Lixenried. Thus, alongside its visible architectural features, the village’s history also has an archaeological dimension, while the rock massif and hiking trails offer a different focus.
