Solla: Hiking Trails, Panoramic Views and the Scharten Chapel
Accommodation in Solla
Meadows and forest trails, a viewpoint with far-reaching views and the medieval Scharten Chapel give Solla several distinctive features. Hiking trail No. 70 follows meadow paths and quiet forest trails around Solla to the Windhoch viewpoint; it reaches its destination after about 1.5 hours. From there, the view extends across Solla and the Bavarian Forest mountains as far as the Danube valley. In good visibility, the Alpine chain can also be seen. The panoramic hike thus combines a route through meadows and forest with a clear destination and a panorama whose range depends on visibility.
Trails Between Viewpoints, a Swimming Lake and the Forest
Hiking trail No. 71 leads to the Ebenreuth Reservoir swimming lake, offering a different focus from the hike to Windhoch. Swimming conditions may vary by season. Solla is also home to a mushroom nature trail that follows existing forest paths. This gives you several different options to plan around: a hike with a viewpoint, a trail to the swimming lake and a nature trail in the forest. You can choose your focus depending on whether you would rather include a viewpoint, the lake or the nature trail in your trip.
The Scharten Chapel and Its History
The Scharten Chapel stands about 750 metres southwest of Solla on a hill at an elevation of 693 m. The medieval church is associated with the former fortified complex of the Edlen von Scharten and is said to have been their castle chapel. For the former municipality of Solla, the chapel was the most historically significant building. Inside, a wall painting depicts Saint Michael fighting the dragon. The ensemble also includes a small forest cemetery. Its elevation, medieval history and painting make a visit a distinctive cultural addition to the hiking trails.
Natural Monument and Winter Option
The Wackelstein, a natural monument, lies 2 km southeast of Solla. The Scharten-Lift in Solla is an additional seasonal winter attraction. It is classified as an easy lift; its operation depends on snow conditions. The options therefore vary by season: viewpoints, forest trails and historic sites are complemented by a winter option that depends on snow.
