In and around Anger, technical miniature worlds, toy history, churches and waterside walks come together as distinct excursion themes. The Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk invites you to experience technology, design and tradition; St. George’s Church on the Steinhögl and the Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel tell stories of architectural and pilgrimage history. Lake Höglwörth adds a walking route to the options. This gives you a choice between collections, historic buildings and a stroll.

Model Railways and Toy History at the TraumWerk

The model railway layout at the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk covers 400 m² and depicts landscapes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with more than 200 trains running through them. This combination offers two points of interest: the design of the landscapes and the operation of the trains. The TraumWerk also features a historic tin toy collection with more than 2,100 exhibits dating from 1860 to 1930. The focus thus shifts from running model trains to historic objects from a clearly defined period. The Erlebnispark also includes an adventure playground and a park railway, adding play and railway themes to the collections.

Church History in and Around Anger

The Romanesque hall church of St. George on the Steinhögl was built in the mid-14th century on the site of a castle chapel. Ashlar blocks from the remains of Roman or medieval buildings were used in its construction. This detail brings the building’s history to life: the church was built after a castle chapel, and older stone was reused.

The Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel was completed in 1848. When the roof structure collapsed in 1824, the shrine containing the miraculous image remained undamaged; pilgrimages to Vachenlueg subsequently increased. This sequence of events gives the site a historical focus distinct from the architectural history of St. George’s.

A Walk Around Lake Höglwörth

The circular path around Lake Höglwörth is flat and wide, making it suitable for a walk with a stroller. Allow about half an hour for the walk. Alongside visits to collections and historic sites, this offers a clearly defined option for a stroll.

Berchtesgadener Land as a Regional Point of Reference

The wider travel destination of Berchtesgadener Land opens up a broader range of landscapes and experiences. In the south, the scenery is shaped by high-alpine mountain landscapes and the natural surroundings of Lake Königssee. Berchtesgaden National Park offers a diverse network of hiking trails and alpine paths spanning 260 km. A single, flat walk at Lake Höglwörth and an extensive network of different types of trails thus offer two distinct scales of exploration.

The Berchtesgaden Salt Mine also offers a distinctive experience. It has been operating for more than 500 years and illustrates the journey of brine from its extraction underground, through its transport to Bad Reichenhall, to its processing into high-quality table salt. Underground, visitors cross the Mirror Lake on a raft 130 metres below ground and see glittering salt crystals.

Choosing accommodation can start with a simple question: will Anger, with its collections, churches and lakeside walk, be your main focus, or would you also like to consider the wider travel destination of Berchtesgadener Land when choosing where to go? This lets you first narrow your search area according to the kind of trip you have planned.
