In Staudach-Egerndach, protected moorland landscapes meet mountain views, paths along the Tiroler Ache and a surprising wealth of local history. This makes the village a destination for days when you want to spend time outdoors and discover some culture along the way. When choosing accommodation, it’s worth first considering whether you mainly want to explore the Filzen moorlands, the alpine pastures, or the churches and art attractions.

Moorland landscapes and nature trails

Near Staudach-Egerndach are the 1,748-metre-high Hochgern, the Tiroler Ache and the Egerndacher Filze raised bog. The Staudach-Egerndacher Filze are designated and protected meadow-breeding bird areas. A moorland nature trail brings the landscape to life over several kilometres; the Kleine Moorrundweg trail leads through the Egerndacher and Staudacher Filzen. Its various stops provide information about the moor and peaceful places to relax.

The character of the Kleine Moorrundweg is particularly useful when planning your day: it is level, with no significant inclines, suitable for older people and small children, and accessible with a pushchair. Weather conditions can affect the paths, so take them into account when planning. If you prefer to be by the water, the embankment path along the Tiroler Ache is suitable for walking, cycling and jogging. The two options offer different experiences: moorland stops and peaceful rest spots on one route, exercise along the Ache on the other.

Views of alpine pastures and tours

The alpine pastures also add their own distinctive scenery to your day-trip plans. The Staudacher Alm is an alpine hut built of natural stone at an altitude of 1,150 metres. From there, you can see the Hochgern and Zwölferspitz. Hearty snacks are served at the hut; opening arrangements may vary seasonally, so check the latest information before your visit.

The circular route Vorderalm – Brachtalm – Staudacher Alm is an alpine-pasture hike offering views of the Hochgern from its distinctive, rugged northern side. It starts at the Holzlagerplatz hiking car park in Mühlwinkel. Another way to explore the area by bike is the MTB 31 Brachtalm mountain-bike tour: it starts in Staudach-Egerndach at the Holzlagerplatz Mühlwinkl, passes the church and follows the cycle path towards Bergen. The “Achen-Achter für Gravel” cycling tour, by contrast, starts at the bridge over the Tiroler Ache in Staudach and initially follows the cycle path along the Ache. It then goes through Egerndach and alongside the Staudach-Egerndacher Filzen. The starting points and route features can help you choose between an alpine-pasture hike, a mountain-bike tour and a gravel ride without confusing one route with another.

Churches, a planetary trail and art

You can also discover local history through specific buildings. St. Andreas Church in Egerndach was first mentioned in a document in 1260; the present-day Catholic parish church dates from the second half of the 15th century. An information panel at the church gives visitors and local residents a brief introduction to its history.

In the surrounding area, the Schnappenkirche, built in 1640, stands on the Schnappenberg in the municipality of Marquartstein at an altitude of 1,100 metres. It belongs to the Staudach-Egerndach parish. Hiking trails lead from Staudach-Egerndach through the mountain forest to the church; from there, the view extends across the Chiemgau and Lake Chiemsee. This excursion combines a hike with a destination whose architectural history and views are equally striking.

The planetary trail runs between Staudach-Egerndach and Marquartstein and offers insights into our solar system. It was created by students from the Landschulheim Marquartstein grammar school. Atelierfenster, a small exhibition space in Staudach-Egerndach dedicated to promoting and appreciating fine art in the Chiemgau, offers a different way to experience regional culture. Studio visits can also be arranged by prior agreement. If you’re interested in this experience, arrange your visit in advance.

A peaceful interlude in your day

The natural Kneipp facility in Staudach-Egerndach is in a quiet location and incorporated into a stream. It adds a different local attraction to the options for an excursion, alongside hiking trails, moorland stops and art. The accommodation that suits you will therefore also depend on which of these interests you want to shape your stay.
