Bad Bayersoien brings together Lake Soier See, moorland and traces of local history. This gives your stay a range of possible focuses: time by the water, insights into nature, and discoveries related to chapels, crafts and local history. When planning, you can consider which of these themes you would like to shape your days.

Lake Soier See: water and moorland

Lake Soier See is located right in Bad Bayersoien, at an elevation of about 810 metres. Humic substances from the surrounding moor turn its water brown—a visible sign of the moorland around the lake. The lake lies in a protected landscape area, home to sensitive and rare animal and plant species.

On the south shore, there is a bathing area, a kiosk and boat rental. The circular trail around Lake Soier See also brings together a range of experiences: it connects a barefoot trail with a moorland nature trail and a birdwatching trail. This brings exercise, nature observation and information about the landscape together on the same circular route.

Nature trails and paths through the countryside

At the eastern edge of the lake, the moorland nature trail leads to three information stations. They explore how the moor formed and its importance to the region. Anyone particularly interested in this landscape will find specific places here to learn more about the moor.

The Ach Round Bad Bayersoien offers a different impression of the landscape. It leads through woodland, peat bogs, and moorland and moss areas with distinctive flora and fauna; sparkling streams accompany the route. While the circular trail by the lake combines a barefoot trail and nature trails, the Ach Round focuses on woodland, wetlands and streams. These different route themes can help you decide whether you would rather spend your time by the lake or in varied natural landscapes.

Chapels, monuments and local history

The “Chapels and Sights” circular trail passes numerous small chapels, crosses and monuments around Bad Bayersoien. It starts and ends at the Tourist Information Office “In der Brandstatt”. One stop with a particular historical connection is the Bad Bayersoien War Memorial Chapel: it was built in 1925 in memory of 120 members of the community who fell in the First World War. From there, the view extends over Lake Soier See and the Hörnle to the surrounding countryside.

The Bierlinghaus Museum also brings together several aspects of local life. It displays a collection relating to contemporary popular religious devotion, with coloured copper engravings, reverse-glass paintings, convent handicrafts, pilgrimage mementos and sculptures. It also features tools and equipment from historic craft guilds based in Bad Bayersoien, as well as materials about peat extraction in the Moos. The museum also tells the story of the lives and living conditions of the Bierlings, a merchant family from Bayersoien.

Another historical landmark is on Dorfstraße: in front of “Haus Dodl” at Dorfstr. 41, the Rottstein commemorates the Rott privilege granted by Emperor Louis the Bavarian in 1332. The chapel trail, the museum and this memorial site offer different perspectives if you would like to get to know Bad Bayersoien not only through its landscape but also through its history.

What to focus on during your stay

When looking for a place to stay in Bad Bayersoien, you can start by using the experiences you have planned as a guide: are the lake and its trails, the moorland or the historic sites your main priorities? This can help clarify which themes you would like to explore during your trip, without limiting you to just one side of the town. Dogs must be kept on a leash at Lake Soier See under a municipal ordinance; check the rules locally again before your visit.
