Discover Hörgering: Trails and mountain views
Accommodation in Hörgering
The village of Eisenärzt spreads out across the Hörgering plateau. From here, you can enjoy views of the Chiemgau Alps. Hiking trails, wooded sections and destinations in various directions give you specific points to consider when planning your trip—whether you have a circular route, a trail with a named destination or an outing with children in mind.
Hiking between Hörgering and Gschwendt
The marked Circular Trail No. 26 along the Zwicklinger Höhenweg climbs up to Hörgering and continues to Gschwendt. The Zwicklinger Höhenweg is suitable for families with children. The loop gives your route planning a clear shape: it connects the climb to Hörgering with the trail to Gschwendt. The Hörgering children’s playground is in Gschwendt, 83313 Siegsdorf.
The Hörgeringer loop takes a different approach. It starts at the hiking car park in Hörgering in the direction of Zinnkopf and follows forest paths at the foot of Zinnkopf to Höpfling. This gives you two named circular trails with different points of reference: Hörgering and Gschwendt on the Zwicklinger Höhenweg, and Zinnkopf and Höpfling on the Hörgeringer loop. If you like to plan your days around specific trail destinations, these differences can help you choose.
On the Traunauen hiking trail
The Traunauen hiking trail to Ruhpolding runs from Eisenärzt via Hörgering to Ruhpolding. On the section from Hörgering towards Vordermiesenbach, you can bypass a somewhat steep hill on the left via a forest road. The Traunauen hiking trail is also suitable for pushchairs, as it follows well-maintained forest roads and asphalt roads. If you are travelling with a pushchair, check the condition of the paths locally.
This route therefore differs from the two circular trails in several specific ways: it continues beyond Hörgering to Ruhpolding, and one described section offers the option of bypassing the somewhat steeper hill on the left via a forest road. When planning, you can weigh up whether a loop with Zinnkopf or Gschwendt as a destination better suits your interests, or whether you would rather include the route towards Ruhpolding.
More trails and experiences
The Adelholzener and Ice Age e-bike tour also passes through Hörgering. There, it crosses a federal highway and a bridge to the western bank of the Weiße Traun. Alternating between hikes and an e-bike tour may be a factor in planning your trip; the routes mentioned differ in their focus and destinations.
You can then compare the location of a specific accommodation with your own plans.
Consider Siegsdorf too
If you also want to include Siegsdorf in your plans, you will find other attractions there. The Höpfling loop is an easy hike along the Traun in Siegsdorf. It is particularly suitable for toddlers and pushchairs and offers several places where you can access the river directly.
The SteinZeitGarten is in the centre of Siegsdorf and is accessible to visitors with disabilities. The Siegsdorf mammoth is considered the most complete and best-preserved mammoth skeleton in Europe. Together with the Höpfling loop, these offer points of interest in Siegsdorf for a range of interests: an easy hike with river access, an accessible garden and a well-known mammoth skeleton.
