Schaufling: Village Lime Tree, Königstein and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Schaufling
Schaufling combines a distinctive village setting with hiking trails through mixed forest and open countryside. At Hausstein, a plateau and its granite column recall royal visits; right in front of the parish church, the ancient village lime tree makes its own impression. The trails offer views of the Lallinger Winkel and the Danube Plain. You can plan your trip around local culture, the scenery along the way, or both.
Königstein and the Village Lime Tree in the Village Setting
Below the summit of Hausstein lies Königstein: a small plateau with a granite column just under two metres high. Its inscriptions commemorate the presence of King Max II and Marie on 11 July 1849, as well as the presence of a Bavarian prince on 10 June 1901. The dates record two distinct, precisely dated commemorations at the same place.
In the centre of Schaufling, the ancient “village lime tree” stands right in front of the parish church. It is regarded as a natural attraction and natural monument, as well as a distinctive landmark of Schaufling’s village setting. Königstein and the village lime tree thus make different impressions: inscriptions below the summit of Hausstein in one place, and a defining natural landmark in the heart of the village in the other.
Hiking Trails Between Forest and Open Countryside
Hiking trails No. 17 and No. 18 offer different landscapes. No. 18 leads through mixed forests and partly through open countryside. Along the way, there are views of the Lallinger Winkel, Hausstein and the Danube Plain. No. 17 runs through the open countryside at the foot of the Hausstein ridge and offers views of the Lallinger Winkel, Brotjacklriegel and the Danube Plain. Both trails offer views of the Lallinger Winkel and the Danube Plain; No. 18 also offers a view of Hausstein, while No. 17 offers a view of Brotjacklriegel. You can choose between a route alternating between forest and open stretches, and one through open countryside.
In winter, destination hiking trail No. 7 between Nadling and the Asklepios Clinic is prepared as a winter hiking trail. If you plan to walk it during a winter visit, check the local information about its seasonal preparation before travelling.
An alternative Goldsteig route leads from Rusel through the Hausstein high forest, past the Asklepios Clinic and on to Schaufling, then via Wulreiching, Ragin, Ensbach, Böhaming and Ginn to its junction with the main route.
