Explore Vilsbiburg on its trails, through its history and via public art. The family trail is particularly suited to families: it combines urban life and nature along a child-friendly route. There are also circular routes of varying lengths, as well as destinations for culture enthusiasts and cyclists. This lets you choose whether to focus your stay on outdoor activities, history or art.

On foot: routes and starting points

The family trail is 2.3 kilometres long and starts at the observation tower on Färberanger. The other trails vary in length and starting point:

  • The Northern Circular Trail starts at the town square and is 5.8 kilometres long.
  • The Southern Circular Trail starts at the Färberanger car park and is 5.9 kilometres long.
  • The Western Circular Trail starts at the ball sports hall on UrbanstraĂźe and is 3.8 kilometres long.
  • The Eastern Circular Trail starts at St. Martin Kindergarten and is 6.7 kilometres long.
  • The History Trail starts at the local history museum on the town square and is 3.1 kilometres long.
  • The Sculpture Trail starts at St. Martin Kindergarten and is 5.4 kilometres long.
  • The Climate Trail starts at the Färberanger car park and is 7.3 kilometres long.

The four circular trails range in length from 3.8 kilometres for the Western Circular Trail to 6.7 kilometres for the Eastern Circular Trail. At 5.8 and 5.9 kilometres, the Northern and Southern Circular Trails are almost the same length, but they have different starting points. So when comparing them, consider not only the distance but also the starting point: the town square or the Färberanger car park. The family trail adds another option: a shorter route that combines urban life and nature.

Local history, craftsmanship and art

The History Trail links 14 historic buildings dating from past centuries. The Vilsbiburg Local History Museum is located at Stadtplatz 39–40. Its specialist collection features products of the renowned Kröning pottery trade. The museum has approximately 1,000 m² of exhibition space and hosts special exhibitions that change each year. This allows you to combine a walk through the town’s history with a closer look at local craftsmanship and the museum’s collections.

You can also encounter art in public spaces: the Kulturforum Vilsbiburg e. V. organised four artist symposia together with the town in 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2018. They resulted in twelve artworks, installed at various locations around Vilsbiburg’s town centre, where they have enriched public spaces ever since. The stained-glass window “I Am the Way” by Marlene Reidel, created in 1956, is also located in Vilsbiburg’s Christ Church.
