Discover Trennfeld: Water, Gorge and Culture
Accommodation in Trennfeld
Trennfeld offers several starting points for planning your trip: there is a designated swimming meadow at Klostersee, and Klingelsbach Gorge is located within the municipal area, with a hiking trail leading to it. Cultural themes range from St. George’s Parish Church to trails with information boards and historic sites in the wider Triefenstein destination. If you are planning a family trip, you can first decide whether water, hiking or culture should be the focus of your time together.
Klostersee and its different uses
Klostersee is located in Trennfeld, within the wider Triefenstein destination. It was created between 1972 and 1975 through gravel extraction. The former gravel pit was transformed into an idyllic local recreation area in the 1970s. Its water surface covers about 76,000 m², its shoreline is about 1,700 metres long, and it is up to five metres deep.
There is a designated swimming meadow for bathers, while anglers have a quiet spot of their own at Klostersee. In the wider Triefenstein destination, the part of the lake on the left as seen from the swimming meadow is used by the Trennfeld fishing club. Swimming and boats are prohibited there. As local regulations and facilities may change, check the latest information before your visit. This helps you take the lake’s different uses into account when planning.
Church, gorge and cultural trail
The Catholic Parish Church of St. George is a post-Gothic hall church dating from 1614. “Hall church” describes its architectural form, while “post-Gothic” refers to its stylistic classification. The church contains notable tomb slabs belonging to the Homburg castle retainers. The building’s history and the tomb slabs offer different ways to explore architecture and history.
The cultural trail “Trail 1 – Right Bank of the Main” runs along the right bank of the Main from Lengfurt via Triefenstein Monastery, Klingelsbach Gorge, Rettersheim and Trennfeld, before returning to Lengfurt. Information boards describe the history and culture of the municipality. The trail thus connects several named stops with information about the municipality. Another natural feature is Klingelsbach Gorge, located within Trennfeld’s municipal area, with a hiking trail leading to it.
More destinations in the wider Triefenstein destination
Triefenstein Monastery, which belongs to Trennfeld, is situated on a hill above the Main. Founded in 1102, it was an Augustinian collegiate monastery for more than 700 years. Kallmuth, a limestone crag rising above the Buntsandstein, is located in Triefenstein-Homburg. Homburg Paper Mill adds another distinctive historical feature: it was restored from 1994 to 1997 with public funding and is a cultural and industrial monument unique in Bavaria.
Another trail complements the cultural trail on the right bank of the Main: Cultural Trail 2 was inaugurated in September 2012 and runs along the left bank. From Lengfurt, it leads via the quarry, cement works, Kallmuth and Homburg, before returning to its starting point at the Mainkai in Lengfurt. The two trails therefore differ, among other things, in which side of the Main they follow and which stops they connect.
For getting around the wider Triefenstein destination, there is a large car park in Trennfeld, directly behind Triefensteinhalle. As parking options and regulations may change, check the latest situation before travelling.
