Alling brings together a distinctive cycling loop, church art, traces of a former castle and seasonal festivals. This offers different interests to consider when planning a trip: a specific route through the municipality and historic sites with clearly identified details.

The Three Lakes Loop and cycle route signs

The 41-kilometre “Three Lakes Loop” passes through the municipality of Alling. Along the route are Lake Olching, Lake Eichenau and Lake Germering. The route has only gentle climbs and runs mostly along designated cycle paths and low-traffic roads. Its length, route profile and named lakes give you specific points to consider when including a cycling tour in your travel plans.

At most cycle paths and intersections in Alling, white-and-green cycle route signs point the way, showing specific destinations and precise distances in kilometres. Together with the information about the Three Lakes Loop, they provide clear guidance for cyclists: you can take both the length of this loop and the signposted destinations into account.

Gothic church and traces of the castle

In Hoflach stands the listed Roman Catholic votive church of St Mary and St George, also known as Capella Regia. The Gothic church was built in 1422. Its designation as a votive church points to another historical connection: on its north wall is a monumental votive painting commemorating the Battle of Alling.

The painting depicts three Bavarian dukes at the head of the victorious army, which is under the protection of St George. The dukes kneel before St Anne, Mary and her kin. In this way, the painting brings together several specific figures and the connection to the battle in a single religious motif.

Another historical trace can be found at the Burgstall west of the parish church of the Nativity of Mary. Parts of the former castle of the noble lords of Alling, especially the ditches, still make its layout discernible. The church and the Burgstall thus represent different aspects of local history: the Gothic church in Hoflach and the visible remains of the former castle complex.

Traditions, festivals and other routes

Clubs and organisations in Alling maintain local traditions, take part in church holidays and organise festivals and social gatherings throughout the year, to which the public is invited. These include the Maypole celebration, the Whitsun festival, the Blossom Festival, the parish festival, St Martin’s Day and the Christmas market. If you are interested in local traditions, you will find a range of occasions throughout the year rather than a single festival theme.

The NahTourBand route “From the Kiln to the Monastery” runs from the Roman kiln on the outskirts of Germering via Holzkirchen, Alling, Germannsberg, Biburg, Pfaffing and Gelbenholzen to Fürstenfeld Monastery in Fürstenfeldbruck. Alling is therefore one of the specifically named places on this route.

Another cycling tour is associated with a specific date: for the 200th birthday of Pastor Sebastian Kneipp on 17 May 2021, the FĂĽrstenfeldbruck district put together a 29-kilometre cycling tour to seven natural Kneipp facilities. This includes the Kneipp facility on the Starzelbach in Alling.

The hiking group of TSV Alling meets every Wednesday for walks or bike rides through the surrounding area of Alling and Munich. If you would like to include this in your plans, check in advance whether it is still taking place.
