Regenhütte between hiking trails and glassmaking tradition
Accommodation in Regenhütte
Regenhütte combines hiking trails, glassmaking tradition and a winter natural toboggan run, offering a range of reasons to visit. The village district lies on the Gläserner Steig, a trail almost 100 kilometres long through the Bavarian Forest. This gives you several options when planning your holiday: a hike, a glimpse into glass culture or a seasonal activity in the snow.
Hiking trails of different lengths
The Rabensteiner Glashüttensteig is an easy, 10.0-kilometre hiking trail from Rabenstein to Regenhütte. At almost 30 kilometres, the river hiking trail between Bayerisch Eisenstein and Regen is significantly longer. After the turn-off for Arberhütte, it continues through mixed forest and along the Seebach loop to Regenhütte; the village district is a scenic place to rest along this route. This gives you a choice between a shorter route rated as easy and a longer river hike with named sections. Trail conditions can vary by season, so check them before setting out.
The Gläserner Steig also passes through Regenhütte. This trail, almost 100 kilometres long, connects former and still-operating glassworks, as well as other evidence of the glassmaking tradition, throughout the Bavarian Forest. The Rabensteiner Glashüttensteig is on a different scale: it is a 10.0-kilometre hiking route from Rabenstein to Regenhütte. Those interested in the history of glass can therefore choose between a longer regional trail and a shorter, easy-rated hike connected with the glassmaking tradition.
Glassmaking tradition, the annual calendar and winter
One historic link to the village district is the former “Rabensteiner Neue Hütte”: Regenhütte is its location. The village district also hosts a traditional midsummer bonfire every year, accompanied by music and culinary treats.
In winter, the natural toboggan run is on a sunny meadow on the outskirts of the village and is well suited to families. Whether snow conditions are suitable for sledging depends on the snow cover at the time. There is also a newly built public barbecue area with a Kneipp pool along the hiking and cycling routes in Regenhütte. We recommend checking local conditions before visiting the barbecue area.
Exhibitions and events in Bayerisch Eisenstein
Bayerisch Eisenstein has cultural attractions of its own. Since 2011, the NaturparkWelten of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park Association have been located in the German section of the Bayerisch Eisenstein border station; the state border runs through the middle of the station. The five exhibition levels include a European bat centre, a model railway, a ski museum and an interactive exhibition about the Großer Arber. Contact the operator for the latest visitor information.
The Localbahnmuseum Bayerisch Eisenstein is housed in a former locomotive shed, built in Bayerisch Eisenstein in 1877 by the Royal Privileged Joint-Stock Company of the Bavarian Eastern Railway. The tour covers the history of the Bavarian Local Railway from 1876 to the present day. The museum has more than 20 historic steam and diesel locomotives from different eras, as well as other exhibits.
Events in Bayerisch Eisenstein also mark recurring dates throughout the year: a New Year’s concert is held every year on 1 January in the village square, to which holidaymakers and local residents are invited. In early September, the Bavarian Forest National Park and the municipality of Bayerisch Eisenstein hold a large mushroom exhibition at the Eisensteiner ArberLandHalle. Check the dates for the relevant year before your trip.
