Discover Blossersberg
Accommodation in Blossersberg
Blossersberg has a distinctive historic character: at Moosleuthen 7 stands a listed residential barn of the Waldlerhaus type, with a barn adjoining at a right angle. The 13-kilometre Viechtach–Neunußberg circular hiking trail also passes through the district on its return leg. The building’s history and the hiking trails offer different ways to discover the area.
A Historic Building and Traces of Everyday Life in the Past
The monument-list description dated 5 February 2026 lists the property at Moosleuthen 7 as a listed residential barn of the Waldlerhaus type, with a barn adjoining at a right angle. It is a former isolated farmstead in the Viechtach district of Blossersberg. The district documented its permanent listed status in 2023. The term “residential barn” makes the combination of living quarters and stable in this type of building clear; the barn adjoins at a right angle.
The history of an inn at the boundary between Viechtach and what is now the district of Blossersberg also goes back to the 19th century. The historic Blossersberger Keller had a small hall where weddings were celebrated and plays were performed. The Blossersberg side of the Schwarzer Regen was also home to historic storage cellars belonging to Viechtach breweries and inns, including the cellars of Kreutzberger and Schmaus. Together, these places tell of past traditions of celebrating, performing and storing goods.
Hikes of Different Lengths
The “Short Loop to the Schwarzer Regen” is a leisurely route of about 6 kilometres along the Schwarzer Regen near Viechtach. It can be reached by public transport. The route heads towards the road to Blossersberg and then returns to its starting point at Viechtach railway station via Bahnhofstraße. Check current trail conditions and timetables before setting off.
A longer alternative is the 13-kilometre, moderately difficult Viechtach–Neunußberg circular hiking trail. It is marked with red marker no. 4 and passes through Blossersberg on the return leg. Here, there is another lovely view of Viechtach. For planning purposes, the difference between the leisurely loop of about 6 kilometres and this moderately difficult 13-kilometre hike makes the length of the day clear.
Water and Forest at Höllensteinsee
Höllensteinsee was created between 1923 and 1926 when the Höllenstein power station was built. The Schwarzer Regen was dammed over a length of 5.6 kilometres to generate electricity. The lake’s origins connect the experience of the landscape with the history of energy production. Boat trips are offered on Höllensteinsee amid the surrounding woodland.
Fishing on Höllensteinsee is possible from May to November. Fishing permits for the Schwarzer Regen between Rugenmühl Bridge and the dam at Höllensteinsee are available, among other places, from the Viechtach Tourist Information Office; a valid annual fishing licence is required. Check the applicable fishing regulations before fishing.
Another local landmark is the Autochthone Pflanzenschule, located diagonally opposite the “Gläserne Scheune”. It can be reached via Blossersberg in the direction of Schönau bei Plöß.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Viechtach
The wider destination of Viechtach has its own cultural attractions. St. Augustine’s Parish Church features Rococo decorations, including stucco work on the ceilings and walls, rose garlands and rocaille ornamentation. Viechtach’s Old Town Hall dates from 1542; the second floor houses a permanent exhibition on the Großer Pfahl nature reserve. The Viechtach Local History Museum focuses on three topics: Viechtach in old views, images and symbols of popular piety, and linen processing in earlier times. The Viechtach Environmental Education Centre aims to provide environmental education for all age groups.
Viechtach is also a key destination for cycling holidays: the 162-kilometre Regental Cycle Path runs between Regensburg and Bayerisch Eisenstein and passes directly through Viechtach. Alongside local history and hiking trails, the wider destination therefore offers further cultural and active pursuits.
