Trinis is a district of Rottach-Egern whose trails offer different perspectives on the Weißach and the Weißach floodplains. The Unterwallberg Loop starts at the Trinis bus stop; other routes range from an easy loop to a winter hiking trail and a wide cycle path.

Hiking loops with different levels of difficulty

The Trinis bus stop is on Wallbergstraße in the Trinis district of Rottach-Egern. The Unterwallberg Loop starts there. It follows the Weißach via Oberach to the valley station of the Wallbergbahn and is signposted as Route 10. The tour is rated moderate. There is a separate access point at the paid hiking car park at the Wallbergbahn.

Another option is the Weissachau Loop: it is 4.9 kilometres long and rated easy and family-friendly. After the route enters the Trinis district, it passes through the Weißach floodplains; on the way back, it follows the banks of the Weißach to the starting point. The two loops therefore differ in more than just their rating: the Unterwallberg Loop goes via Oberach to the valley station, while the Weissachau Loop returns along the river. Route information may change; check it before setting out if the rating is important for your plans.

Experience the Weißach floodplains on different routes

The Naturschauspiel Kreuth children’s hiking trail also focuses on the Weißach. A trail description updated in 2015 describes it as a flat family hike along the river. The interactive stations mentioned there share information about the Weißach habitat and the flora and fauna of the Weißach floodplains landscape conservation area. This trail is therefore as much about learning about nature as it is about walking.

The “From Rottach along the Weißach to Kreuth” winter hiking trail offers a seasonal option. The last houses in the Trinis district mark the start of an increasingly quiet stretch. The route runs through the Weißach floodplains landscape conservation area on designated paths. Snow and trail conditions can vary, so it is worth checking current conditions before a winter hike.

For a bike ride, a wide cycle path leads from the Trinis district through the “Weißach floodplains” nature reserve back to the village of Kreuth. Conditions on this route may vary with the seasons. Hiking, winter hiking and cycling follow different route descriptions, each offering its own way to explore the Weißach and its floodplains.

Rottach-Egern as the wider travel destination

The wider travel destination of Rottach-Egern offers further opportunities to enjoy the landscape and mountains. Rottach-Egern lies on the southern shore of Lake Tegernsee, set against an impressive mountain backdrop. The Malerwinkel in Egerner Bay inspired painters, poets and composers. Wallberg, the mountain overlooking Lake Tegernsee and rising to over 1,700 metres, invites visitors to enjoy walks and challenging hikes and also serves as a launch site for paragliders. The Wallbergbahn takes visitors up the mountain, where panoramic views stretch across Lake Tegernsee and the Alps; its operating hours may change. Wallberg is also home to Germany’s longest natural toboggan run, which is more than six kilometres long. Its seasonal operation may vary.

Culture and water also add to what Rottach-Egern has to offer. The Gsotthaber Hof Museum is dedicated to rural life and the lives of carters. This family museum focuses on horses, and children can see, hear and touch. The See- und Warmbad Rottach-Egern has a sports pool, whirlpool and air-bubble loungers, as well as a water slide, current channel and well-maintained sandy beach right on Lake Tegernsee. For children, there are paddling pools with water temperatures ranging up to 33 degrees, along with play equipment and a water bell. The pool operates seasonally, and opening arrangements may vary.

If you would like to include seasonal events in your travel plans, Rottach-Egern has two recurring occasions: the traditional Rosstag takes place every year on the last Sunday in August, and the Almabtrieb takes place annually in late autumn. The exact dates may vary.
