Teunz brings together nature, local character and history. Within the municipality, a protected landscape and restored stream floodplains meet historical traces; in the main village, St. Lambertus Parish Church defines the townscape. Near Fuchsberg, the pilgrimage church of St. James adds another cultural point of interest. This gives you a choice of different themes for planning your trip: landscape, local history or pilgrimage routes.

Stream Landscape and Natural Monument

The entire municipality of Teunz lies within the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park. The Murach and Faustnitz streams meet in Teunz. Natural flood protection measures and the restoration of the stream floodplains have been implemented at their confluence. Together, the watercourse and the design of the floodplains shape the local landscape.

The juniper heath near Burkhardsberg offers a different perspective: this natural monument covers about one hectare and is grazed by sheep and goats. The heath is a clearly defined natural feature within the municipality, while the confluence and restored stream floodplains form a landscape feature centred on water. The municipality is also part of the Oberviechtacher Land holiday region.

Churches and Historical Traces

St. Lambertus Parish Church defines the townscape of Teunz. The church contains the grave of Eleonore von Taufkirchen-Kreuth, who died in 1771. This provides a concrete link to local history: a defining feature of the townscape is also connected to the grave of a named individual, with a known date.

The late-medieval remains of Wildstein Castle in the municipality of Teunz point to a different period. They date from the 14th and 15th centuries and were uncovered during archaeological excavations. By comparison, the grave of Eleonore von Taufkirchen-Kreuth directs attention to the year 1771. Both places add a historical focus to your trip planning, but with different points of reference in time.

When planning your visit, keep in mind the earth house near Kühried: it is closed year-round and opened only for research purposes. Check the visitor arrangements again before travelling; do not plan to visit the earth house as a public attraction.

Pilgrimage Church and Routes near Fuchsberg

The pilgrimage church of St. James is about 700 metres outside the village of Fuchsberg. The Way of St. James and the Goldsteig trail pass bilingual information boards about the pilgrimage route and Fuchsberg. For travellers interested in pilgrimage routes, this offers a specific connection to both named routes and the topics covered by the boards. Unlike the archaeological remains of Wildstein Castle, St. James focuses on pilgrimage.

Teunz as a Starting Point

The main village of Teunz lies directly on the B 22 between Weiden i.d.OPf. and Cham. This location provides a clear reference point for planning your route. When looking for accommodation, you can first decide which themes you want to focus on during your stay: the parish church and townscape, the landscape around the Murach and Faustnitz, or the historical and religious points of interest.
