Bruckmühl brings together a circular hiking route, the Via Julia cycle route, contemporary art and a nature experience featuring a biotope and museums. Each offers a different focus: spending time outdoors, viewing contemporary exhibitions, or learning about animals and nature. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth taking a closer look at the trails, rail connections and cultural offerings. You can plan your stay around exercise, art or nature, depending on your interests.

Hiking and cycling

The circular hike “Hiking in the Footsteps of the Holnstain Knights” is about 7 km long and takes approximately 2.5 hours. It starts and ends at Bruckmühl station. Its distance and approximate duration make it easy to set aside a dedicated block of time during your stay; its starting and ending point at the station are clearly defined.

The “Via Julia” cycle route from Günzburg to Salzburg passes through Bruckmühl. Unlike the circular hike, which starts and ends at the station, Bruckmühl is part of a route connecting two cities. This distinction can help with planning: you can compare a loop with a fixed starting and ending point with a cycle route that passes through the town.

Travel by Mangfall Valley Railway

The Mangfall Valley Railway offers four boarding points in Bruckmühl: Bruckmühl and Heufeld stations, as well as Heufeldmühle and Hinrichssegen stops. Include these names in your rail travel plans and check the timetable for your specific travel dates.

Gallery art at the Bürgerhaus

Since March 1994, Galerie Markt Bruckmühl has presented changing exhibitions of contemporary art. It is located in a Bürgerhaus (civic hall) built by Italian master builders in 1895. At this cultural venue, you can experience both changing contemporary exhibitions and the history of a 19th-century civic hall. If a particular exhibition will determine whether you visit, check the current program in advance. Almost a hundred years passed between the construction of the civic hall and the gallery’s opening.

Nature experience with a biotope and museums

The Bruckmühl nature experience comprises the Salus Auwald Biotope and the market’s natural history and zoology museums. The Zoology Museum shows video clips featuring day and night footage of animals from the Salus Auwald Biotope. The Natural History Museum offers small collections of minerals, tree species and tree fungi. The two museums therefore have different focuses: animal footage at one, and natural history collections at the other.

Admission to the Zoology Museum and the Salus Auwald Biotope is free. Visiting hours for the Salus Auwald Biotope are listed as Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., until 4 p.m. during winter. Guided tours are available by arrangement. Please check admission details and opening hours before your visit.
