Accommodation in Storkow
Storkow: Village Character and Horse-Riding Opportunities
Storkow is a typical linear village, surrounded by farmland and forests. Many of the existing buildings date from the previous century. The rural setting and the buildings give the place a distinct character. When planning your trip, consider what you would like to focus on: would you prefer to explore the village character and its surroundings, or include activities with horses?
Steindamm Riding Stables in Storkow offers horse-riding holidays for beginners and advanced riders. Facilities and activities include an indoor riding arena, rides through the countryside and horse boarding. This gives you several options: horse-riding holidays for different experience levels, riding in the arena, outdoor rides and accommodation for horses. Which option suits your plans depends on what you would like to focus on. As availability depends on the operator, check before your trip whether the service you want is available.
The riding stables are in a rural setting of meadows, forest and fields. A small forest lake is about 500 metres away. If you would like to include the lake in your plans, check access conditions in advance.
Templin: Urban History and Brick Gothic Architecture
The wider destination of Templin adds a distinct historic city focus. The medieval fieldstone wall encloses the historic town centre. It is 1,735 metres long and up to seven metres high. You can stroll along the restored fortifications, which include three Gothic brick gates, two towers and 47 Wiekhäuser (defensive houses built into the town wall). The Archaeological City Walk leads through the historic old town, passing, among other places, the market square and church square before reaching the town wall. Ten information boards provide background on the respective finds. These offer two different ways to explore Templin’s history: a walk along the fortifications and a tour with stops throughout the old town.
Prenzlauer Gate is Templin’s newest and most complete brick gate. The historic gate also reflects the town’s history of more than 750 years. The small St. George’s Chapel combines architecture with a vivid detail: it dates from the 14th century and was built in the Brick Gothic style. The chapel houses a wooden sculpture from the 16th century. It depicts the patron saint George on horseback, in full armour and fighting the dragon.
The lovingly restored half-timbered houses on Rühlstraße offer further glimpses into the past. Dating from around 1740, they form a continuous block-front development. St. Mary Magdalene’s Church was rebuilt in the Baroque style after the fire of 1735, on the foundations of its Gothic predecessor. These places reflect different chapters in Templin’s architectural history: 18th-century half-timbering, a church with Gothic foundations and a Baroque rebuild, and medieval brick architecture.
Culture and water also add their own highlights in Templin. The Multicultural Centre offers a year-round programme of films, theatre, cabaret, readings, exhibitions and concerts; check the schedule for specific events. City walks are offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays, sharing both interesting facts and anecdotes about the town. Check the dates before your trip. A small bathing area on Templin Lake lies right on the lakeside path below the vineyard.
