Discover Machtlos between forests and hiking trails
Accommodation in Machtlos
Machtlos combines village character with forest and hiking experiences. The village has been a state-recognized recreational resort since 1983. Forests, meadows, pastures and fields shape the surrounding area; the village itself features half-timbered houses and a small church. An official notice dated March 28, 2025, places Machtlos on a southern slope of the Richelsdorf Hills. Here, landscapes and village views come together in a compact travel destination.
Hiking trails with a range of themes
The R 21 hiking trail starts in the village center and is 6.0 kilometers long. Another option is the Steinbachtal Adventure Trail: its 3.5 kilometers feature wobbly bridges, a climbing horse, a climbing tower with a climbing ladder, a tire swing tower, seesaws and round-log paths. There is also a rocky stretch in the Steinbach stream and plenty of places to take a break. These stations give the trail a playful, activity-focused character.
Visitors interested in trees and shrubs will find 25 signs along the forest information trail about the species found there. A large information board adds to the theme with picture panels about native animals and birds. The Fairy-Tale Adventure Trail starts at the hiking car park at the Ronshausen Holiday Park in the recreational resort of Machtlos, at Bellersberg 11. It is combined with a geocaching route.
Cycling is also part of getting around locally: a cycle path runs through the Machtlos valley and provides a detour to the recreational resort of Machtlos. Eight circular hiking trails in Ronshausen and the recreational resort of Machtlos are part of a hiking pass that can be used to earn the Ronshausen Hiking Badge. This offers a choice of several named types of route, from a starting point in the village center to nature and adventure stations and a cycle path through the valley.
