Hemfurth can be discovered through a striking contrast: Adventure Golf Edersee features regional and fairy-tale themed worlds, while the Eder Dam and Aquapark bring together construction history and a scale model of the lake. Also on offer are wildlife watching at the Edersee Wildlife Park, the BuchenHaus with its beech forest exhibition, and active pursuits on Lake Edersee.

Adventure Golf and the Eder Dam

Adventure Golf Edersee is located in Edertal-Hemfurth. Its more than 4,000 square metres are home to 18 varied holes with regional and fairy-tale themed worlds. The area, number of holes and design give your outing a clear framework, while the different motifs define the course.

The Eder Dam offers a historical contrast: its dam wall is 400 metres long and was built between 1908 and 1914. The Aquapark is located at the dam wall, directly behind the Edersee Visitor Centre; its address is listed as Edertal-Hemfurth. It recreates Lake Edersee to a scale of 1:200. The features include a suspension bridge, a water wheel, a water curtain and climbing poles. Here, you can encounter both the reservoir as a scale model and the long dam wall as a structure. The Aquapark operates seasonally; check the current opening hours before your visit.

Wildlife Park and BuchenHaus

Bus route 518 runs to the “Wildpark” stop; the Edersee Wildlife Park and BuchenHaus are accessible from there. Check the timetable before travelling. The Wildlife Park is home to a total of 21 different native species to admire and experience. The falconry centre offers birds of prey flight demonstrations. Birds of prey can be watched in free flight from a wheelchair-accessible viewing platform. Demonstration times vary by season, so plan your visit around the current schedule.

BuchenHaus is located at the entrance to the Edersee Wildlife Park, in the eastern part of Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. Its exhibition on beech forests is divided into five themed areas: SchattenWald, BoggelReich, NetzWerk, BodenSchau and WaldBĂĽhne. There is also an adventure playground and the WildnisSchule. The centre thus combines an exhibition on beech forests with other expressly named attractions at this visitor site.

Plan cycling and climbing

For active outings, allow for different time and distance requirements: plan for around three hours for a visit to the climbing forest at Lake Edersee; the duration depends on fitness and how busy it is. Check the operator’s latest information beforehand. The ER 3 cycle route is an approximately 37-kilometre loop between Edertal-Hemfurth and Edertal-Bringhausen. It passes through the surrounding countryside and is mostly paved. For the climbing forest, the main consideration is the approximate time to spend there; for the ER 3, it is the route length and predominantly paved surface.

Getting your bearings and exploring Edertal

The Tourist Information office at the Edersee Visitor Centre in Hemfurth provides advice on experiences in the region. The visitor centre also has digital information walls and an interactive terminal with information about the region. As opening hours may change, it is best to check them before your visit.

The wider destination of Edertal also offers its own excursions and landscapes to explore. In the village of Giflitz, a historical village trail has 17 stops covering the village’s history and special features. In Mehlen, you can pan for Eder gold under expert guidance. The Ederauen Erlebnisweg runs between Mehlen and Giflitz through a varied river landscape and is ideal for walking and cycling. The “Schwimmkaute” and “Krautwiese” nature reserves are former gravel extraction sites that have developed into water-rich habitats.
