Dangast lies between the North Sea and the Jade Bight, a coastal resort where mudflats, beach and art all have their place. You can swim in the North Sea at the bathing beach, while the bay is shaped by the ebb and flow of the tides. Mudflat walks, a family activity centre and a playground offer children and parents different ways to get involved. There is also a swimming pool, a sauna and an artist’s house. Which of these appeals to you most can also guide your search for accommodation in Dangast.

Beach and Tides on the Jade Bight

The ebb and flow of the tides in the Jade Bight near Dangast create the impression that the bay dries out completely twice a day and is flooded again twice a day. This cycle makes the tides a defining part of the coastal landscape. Swimming in the North Sea is possible at Dangast’s bathing beach; bathing conditions can vary seasonally. A concrete path runs directly along the water’s edge and is easy to navigate by wheelchair, mobility scooter or pushchair.

Mudflat Adventures and Play by the Dyke

The Dangast National Park House is located at the entrance to the village in the old village school. It is home to a family activity centre covering more than 500 m². On guided mudflat walks run by the National Park House, children aged 3 to 12 join their parents at the water’s edge with a landing net. They dig up mussels and lugworms and investigate how these small animals live. The guided walk makes the mudflats a focus for shared observation.

The “Wattbuttjer” World Heritage playground is located right by the dyke. Its play facilities include a large play ship and other equipment. Together with the mudflat walks, it offers families another way to engage with the coast: one through the animals of the mudflats, the other through play and movement by the dyke.

Swimming Pool and Sauna

DanGastQuellbad has indoor and outdoor areas; all its swimming pools are filled with iodine brine. Watt’n Sauna has two Finnish saunas, a gentle sauna and a fireplace lounge. If the swimming pool or sauna is an essential part of your plans, check the latest operating information before your visit.

Art and Local History

The Franz Radziwill House preserves the artist’s original home and studio in Dangast. Changing exhibitions of works created there are displayed on the upper floor, including more than 800 paintings, watercolours and drawings. You can also encounter art outdoors: the art garden at the village entrance opened in June 2026. It currently displays 11 works of art made from different materials, as well as 6 pictures by regional artists. Guided tours are regularly offered along the Dangast Art Trail. If you are planning a tour, it is best to check the date in advance.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

To help you find your way when arriving, look for the approximately 280 parking spaces in front of the World Heritage Portal and the “Am Strand” bus stop. You can then tailor your search for accommodation in Dangast to the experiences you want to define your trip.
