Adendorf: Culture, Recreation and Golf
Accommodation in Adendorf
Adendorf combines culture at historic sites with plenty of opportunities to enjoy active pursuits: from concerts at St. John’s Chapel to swimming and ice skating, as well as golf, cycling and hiking. The town library and Teichaue also give the town its own distinctive character.
Culture among the Chapel, Concerts and Library
Dating from around 1258, St. John’s Chapel is Adendorf’s oldest building. It is still used as a church and is also a cultural centre. This historic setting can also be enjoyed through music: the Adendorf Serenade is a chamber music series with up to eight concerts a year. Venues include St. John’s Chapel, Emmaus Church and the library. The number of concerts and venues may change; if you are planning to attend a concert, check the dates and venue in advance.
The library complements the cultural programme with readings, book presentations and picture-book cinema. Events taking place during your trip may vary. Checking the current programme can help you coordinate a potential visit with your other travel interests.
Teichaue, Water and Winter Ice
Adendorf’s landscape also tells a story of change: the town’s former largest clay pit has been transformed into the Teichaue recreation area. The former site and its current use offer a different way to experience Adendorf than the history of the chapel or its cultural programme.
Adendorf’s outdoor pool features a heated 50-metre pool, a timed slide and a five-metre diving tower. There are also football and beach volleyball courts, table tennis tables, a basketball hoop, a children’s playground and a large sunbathing lawn. Operating status, seasonal access and facilities may change; check the current conditions before visiting.
The Walter-Maack Ice Stadium is all about a different season: its 1,800-square-metre ice rink is used for winter skating. The winter programme includes ice discos, skating lessons and Bavarian curling; during the season, Adendorfer EC also plays its home games there. Opening dates, the programme and the fixture schedule may change. This makes it possible to compare water-based activities and the ice rink as different options for your travel season, without planning for them with the same expectations.
Active on the Golf Course and Beyond
Golf Resort Adendorf offers an 18-hole championship course and a public 9-hole course. Training facilities include a driving range with 24 covered bays and 40 grass tee positions, chipping, pitching and putting greens, and a practice bunker. Facilities may change. Anyone wishing to focus on golf will find two different course sizes and additional practice options here.
Cycling and hiking are further options in Adendorf and the surrounding area. The “Schiffshebewerk Scharnebeck” circular trail from Adendorf is a named hiking route. The demand-responsive hvv-hop-Lüneburg service is part of Adendorf’s public transport network; services and operating conditions may change. Check current connections when planning your trip.
Restaurant and Choosing a Location
The Clubhaus Castello at Golf Resort Adendorf combines a public restaurant and a large sun terrace with Mediterranean and rustic dishes in a family-friendly country-house setting. The food on offer and restaurant availability may change; if you have specific plans, it is a good idea to check the latest information.
Adendorf is four kilometres northeast of Lüneburg city centre. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore weigh up whether Adendorf’s range of leisure activities or the city’s programme is more important to you. In the wider Lüneburg destination, city and town hall tours offer a distinct cultural experience: they showcase the historic atmosphere of gabled and brick houses, old lanes and the waterside district. Lüneburg Water Tower adds another perspective with an observation platform 56 metres high and views across Lüneburg and the surrounding area. It hosts classical concerts at 8 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month and at full moon. Check the dates in advance if you are planning to attend a concert.
