Jade invites you to discover different sides of its landscape and history: the Floating Moor near Sehestedt, the salt marshes on Jade Bay, cultural sites with a long architectural history and Jaderpark. The Floating Moor is particularly unique: a remnant raised bog in front of the North Sea coastal dike. A boardwalk takes you through this landscape; the longer Salt Marsh Experience Trail leads from there through the salt marshes to the Wadden Sea. When planning your trip, you can choose between nature, culture and leisure attractions as different focal points.

Explore the Moor and Salt Marshes on Foot

The Floating Moor near Sehestedt is accessible via a 150-metre-long boardwalk. The Salt Marsh Experience Trail offers a longer excursion: the circular route is five kilometres long and takes about one and a half to two hours on foot. It leads from the Floating Moor through the salt marshes to the Wadden Sea, then back to the dike via Sehestedt beach. This lets you experience the landscape on one continuous walk rather than heading to a single viewpoint.

More than 30 information boards along the trail explain how Jade Bay was formed over geological time. They give the walk a thematic focus and also make it a journey of discovery through the landscape. If you are particularly interested in the Wadden Sea, the National Park Experience Station offers another way to explore it: its laboratory container has small aquariums. Magnifying glasses, binocular microscopes and binoculars let you study the Wadden Sea habitat there. Information at the station is available from May to September; check current seasonal conditions before your visit.

Architectural History, Art and Leisure

Jade’s cultural sites each have their own character. The Church of the Trinity has stood in its present form since the end of the 17th century. Schönhof Gallery is housed in a Gulfhaus farmhouse dating from 1872 and has an attached blue-printing studio. Here, a historic building type and a traditional craft share the same roof. Since its founding in 1991, the Jan Oeltjen Artists’ House association has focused primarily on the work of artist Jan Oeltjen. Alongside the moor and coast, these stops add an artistic and architectural-historical perspective to your trip.

Jaderpark offers a different kind of outing. Its attractions include a climbing and water world, numerous rides and encounters with exotic animals. Jaderpark also features Grizzly Adventure, a roller coaster and a log flume ride. The nature trail, cultural sites and park attractions cater to distinctly different interests and ways of spending the day. For families, it can help to decide first whether nature discoveries, art and history, or rides should be the main focus.

Choose Accommodation to Match Your Interests

Plan your search for accommodation in Jade around the experiences you want: natural history on the Salt Marsh Experience Trail, architectural and art history, or the leisure attractions at Jaderpark each give your trip a different focus. This lets you decide how you want to spend your holiday before comparing accommodation.

The Wesermarsch as a Broader Landscape

Jade is part of the wider Wesermarsch travel destination, whose landscapes offer a broader perspective. The Wesermarsch is characterised by 60 kilometres of Wadden Sea coastline and 90 kilometres of riverbanks along the Weser and Hunte. Its marshlands are well suited to cycling and hiking. As a regional cycling option, the German Sluice Route is a circular trail through the Wesermarsch that takes you past marshes and moors, sluices, harbours and towns along the Weser and North Sea coast. Its flat route is particularly suitable for cycling with children or on an e-bike. The regional routes in the Wesermarsch thus complement the natural and cultural sites you can discover in Jade.
