Discover Legden
Accommodation in Legden
Legden is located in the parkland of the Münsterland region, near the Dutch border. The Dahlia Garden, historic houses and circular cycling routes offer different ways to shape a stay: seasonal blooms, history or active days on a bike.
Dahlias in bloom and a green escape
Legden Dahlia Garden is next to St. Brigida Parish Church and is a public place to meet, rest and relax. From around mid-July to mid-October, it displays around 180 dahlia varieties. If you mainly want to see the flowers, you can plan your trip around this approximate seasonal window. At the same time, the garden is more than a place to see flowers: its role as a public meeting place and peaceful retreat gives it a different character from the historic tours or a cycling loop.
Historic houses and guided tours
Haus Egelborg is listed as a moated castle; its first explicit mention dates to 1389. Scheduled guided tours can be booked through Touristik Legden & Asbeck. Confirm the booking arrangements before your trip. At Haus van Wüllen, the family invites visitors on a historical tour; here, too, you should clarify the tour arrangements before arriving. Haus van Wüllen is also associated with the former residence of the abbesses of Asbeck Abbey. The houses therefore offer different points of historical interest: one has an explicitly dated mention, while the other is connected with the history of the abbey.
Two cycling loops, different routes
KP-Tour 3 is a 51.7-kilometre loop through Legden, Asbeck, Heek, Nienborg and Ahaus, partly following the 100 Castles Route. KP-Tour 4 is a 30.2-kilometre loop through Legden, Ahaus and Asbeck, combining nature, culture and the pleasures of the Münsterland region. KP-Tour 4 is therefore the shorter of the two routes described, while KP-Tour 3 covers more kilometres and includes more named places. You can start by comparing the distance and route to decide which better suits your planned day. Check current route information before setting off.
Cyclists will find e-bike charging stations and a bicycle repair station in Legden, near the EuroVelo R1 route. If you plan to use these facilities, check their availability before your ride. This information complements the cycling routes with practical guidance without replacing their individual itineraries.
Getting there and planning your stay
The Westmünsterland Railway connects Dortmund, Legden, Gronau and Enschede. The Baumberge Railway connects Münster, Coesfeld, Legden and Gronau. Both routes serve Legden and Gronau; the other destinations listed differ. When planning your journey, you can compare these places with your starting point or destination.
