Vossenack offers several ways to spend the day: the Hürtgenwald 1944 and in Peacetime Museum focuses on the history of the town and region, the heated outdoor pool adds swimming and sunbathing to the agenda, and the Kall Trail [66] leads through the Kall Valley on a moderately difficult hike. You can choose between culture, a day at the pool and a longer route.

History at the museum

At the Hürtgenwald 1944 and in Peacetime Museum in Vossenack, the All Souls’ Day Battle of 1944 is the focus of an exhibition featuring documents, photographs and military objects found in the Hürtgen Forest. Another section of the exhibition covers forest fires after the war and the civilian evacuation. The story thus extends from the events of 1944 into the post-war period. For trip planning, the museum offers a distinct cultural focus alongside outdoor activities.

Outdoor pool or hike?

The heated outdoor pool in Vossenack has a water area of 660 m² and a 6,000 m² sunbathing lawn. Free parking and a kiosk serving sweet and savoury food are also available. The operating season and food availability may vary. The Vossenack Kirche stop is served by bus route 286; the pool is a five-minute walk from there. As timetables may change, check the schedule before travelling.

The Kall Trail [66] offers a different way to spend the day: this 8.8 km moderately difficult hike starts and ends in Vossenack on Pfarrer-Dickmann-Straße. It leads through the Kall Valley and past traces of the Second World War. Along the way are an audio station, the Mestrenger Mill and viewpoints. This gives you a choice between a marked route with a known distance and difficulty level, and a visit to the outdoor pool. Check the route page for possible changes before setting out.

From the Krawutschke Tower in Hürtgenwald-Bergstein, the view stretches across the Eifel ridges and the Rur Valley with the Obermaubach reservoir to the Jülich Börde and the Cologne Bay. The forest discovery trail passes by the tower. This circular trail features information boards, wooden play equipment and small installations where visitors can discover the local flora and fauna. As trail facilities may change, it is worth checking the latest information.

For a short, family-friendly walk in the Hürtgen Forest, try the Kleine Rundwanderweg [06]. It follows quiet forest paths along the Richelsbach and starts and ends at Vossenack Church. For an active challenge, the Hürtgenwald high ropes course has 130 individual elements across various courses and around 1,400 m of zip lines. Children aged six and up can tackle the challenges among the trees. Access to the facility is seasonal and weather-dependent.
