Langscheid on Lake Sorpe: Shore, Paths and Views
Accommodation in Langscheid
On Lake Sorpe, Langscheid brings together lakeside experiences, activities on the water and paths through mixed woodland. Along the promenade, active and more relaxed ways to enjoy time by the lake take turns; routes lead through extensive mixed woodland and offer views towards the Röhr Valley. If you would like to include water and nature in your stay, the town offers various ways to plan your day.
Exploring the lake
Langscheid lies directly on Lake Sorpe and provides access to a continuous footpath and cycle path around the entire lake. Other routes run through extensive mixed woodland and open up views towards the Röhr Valley. This lets you choose between paths by the water and tours through the woodland landscape—two different perspectives on the surrounding area.
Activities on the lake include sailing, rowing, diving, swimming, surfing and pedal boating. The range is complemented by a lido, boat hire and mountain bike tours. This gives you a choice of activities both on the water and on land. Check the availability of the facilities in question before you travel.
Sorpe Promenade and Haus des Gastes
The Sorpe Promenade invites you to walk, skate and cycle; beach volleyball, family outings and relaxing by the water are also among the ways to enjoy it. Seating and terraces with lake views, as well as nearby restaurants, add to the lakeside experience. Concerts and theatre performances broaden the range of cultural events on offer. As individual businesses and programmes may change, it is worth checking the latest information if you have specific plans for dining out or attending an event.
The Haus des Gastes in Langscheid includes a spa park, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a wellness area. The memorial’s observation tower offers a different perspective on the town and the surrounding Lake Sorpe landscape. It is open from March to November; you can borrow the gate key in advance from the Haus des Gastes. Check access information before your visit, as it may change.
Within the wider destination of Sundern (Sauerland)
Lake Sorpe lies in Sundern, between the districts of Langscheid and Amecke, set in the Sauerland landscape. In Amecke, the 3.4-kilometre AiRlebnisweg runs along the edge of the Sauerland reservoir and passes 20 interactive stations about air, breathing and water. The route is illuminated throughout, open year-round and fully accessible, making it an excursion destination for walkers and hikers. Here, the focus is on a themed trail, while activities in Langscheid are more strongly shaped by the lake and its promenade.
Wildewiese offers a different range of activities: on the 648-metre-high Schomberg, there are five ski lifts, several runs up to 1,200 metres long and a ski school. In addition, around 50 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails run along the Homert ridge and as far as the area around Röhrenspring. The trails are groomed seasonally; skiing operations are also seasonal. This creates a clear distinction when choosing the focus of your holiday: water activities in Langscheid versus winter sports in Wildewiese.
The wider destination of Sundern (Sauerland) also offers various points of interest for those interested in history. A dedicated mining trail has existed in Endorf since 2004, and guided tours are available. On a guided tour of Allendorf, the local heritage association “Fickeltünnes” explains important historical events and personalities. If you are interested in a guided tour, check for current dates in advance. The “Alte Kornbrennerei” museum in Sundern displays, among other things, exhibits from the lighting industry and mining. In Hachen, the ruins of the castle stand on a hill rising 80 metres above the Ruhr Valley. Melschede Castle in Hövel dates from the 13th century; its present Baroque appearance dates back to the 17th century.
If you would also like to include skiing or cross-country skiing in the wider Sundern (Sauerland) area, add Wildewiese to your comparison as another destination. This way, you can choose where to stay based on the experiences that matter to you.
