Accommodation in Neuastenberg
In Neuastenberg, nature experiences, hiking and winter sports go hand in hand: a themed rally, two circular hikes, a climbing park, cycling options and the Postwiese offer different starting points for planning your trip. There is also a chapter of winter sports history. Which aspect of the village you focus on can also guide your search for accommodation.
Nature and winter sports history
The West German Winter Sports Museum opened in 1998 in Winterberg-Neuastenberg, at the foot of the Kahler Asten. It complements outdoor activities with a cultural and historical perspective on winter sports. Those wishing to combine the landscape with interesting facts can also follow the 3 km Nature and Adventure Rally around the Gerkenstein, Neuastenberg’s local mountain. Its 19 stops cover nature, landscapes and interesting facts about the high-altitude villages of Neuastenberg and Lenneplätze. The circular trail combines exercise with several themed stops.
Circular hikes with different sections of trail
The signposted N2 – Hoher Knochen Trail is a 7 km circular hike. It leads through the valley of the young Lenne and over the Hoher Knochen; the start and finish are at the Neuastenberg Tourist Information Office. The 6 km N1 – Zwistmühle circular hike also starts and ends there. Its route follows a scenic border path through the Ochsenstallsgraben and the Odeborntal valley. The Zwistmühle mill is also on the N1 route: it has a waterwheel in the Odeborntal valley. The two routes differ in length by one kilometre. Their different landscapes and destinations may also factor into your choice.
Climbing, cycling and winter activities
The Steinkuhle natural climbing park in Neuastenberg has 16 climbing routes and is located near the biathlon stadium. It opened on 23 September 2012. This offers a different focus from the trails around Gerkenstein and the two marked hikes: here, climbing routes take centre stage.
The Postwiese in Neuastenberg has a 500 m natural toboggan run with steep banked turns; it is covered with artificial snow and floodlit. There is also a fun park for snowboarders. The operation of winter facilities may depend on snow and weather conditions. There is also a practical point to bear in mind when travelling to the Postwiese Ski Village Neuastenberg: the Postwiese shuttle bus takes passengers with a valid ticket there free of charge at regular intervals. Timetables may change, so check the schedule before your visit.
Neuastenberg is intended to develop into the Postwiese Ski Village Winterberg, offering more service and atmosphere as well as other advantages of a ski village. Cyclists will also find a dedicated option: Neuastenberg is connected to the Bike Arena Sauerland. Its well-developed network of routes offers mountain bikers and road cyclists tours and challenges.
