Bohlscheid invites you to discover the Natursteig Sieg and a varied landscape. Around the village, wooded slopes alternate with open meadows. From Oberbohlscheid, the view stretches across surrounding fields and meadows to the heights of the Bergisches Land. Narrow paths near the Überbuschbach are also part of the route. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll find distinctive impressions of the landscape here rather than a uniform hiking panorama.

Woods, meadows and far-reaching views

The route around Bohlscheid combines wooded slopes with open spaces and far-reaching views. This contrast is particularly clear from Oberbohlscheid: the view leads across fields and meadows towards the Bergisches Land. Vegetation and visibility may vary depending on the season. The different landscape features give the hike a changing character; narrow paths also run near the Ăśberbuschbach. This lets you experience the surroundings through both open vistas and narrower stretches of trail.

The Natursteig Sieg through Bohlscheid

The signposted Natursteig Sieg passes through the Bohlscheid area. Near the Ăśberbuschbach, narrow paths are part of the route. Bohlscheid is also on Stage 4 of the Natursteig Sieg: the 14.7-kilometre hiking stage runs between Merten station and Eitorf station. From Bohlscheid, it continues via Kelterser Berg and the Sieg bridge to Eitorf. This means that, alongside the landscape around the village, named stage locations and a clearly defined route are available for planning.

The stations at either end of the stage provide a reference point for travelling by train: Merten is served by lines S12 and S19, and Eitorf by RE9, S12 and S19. Check current departure times before your trip. Trail usability may also be temporarily affected by trail conditions or forestry work, so checking for current notices is part of planning your hike.

More discoveries in the wider destination of Eitorf

The wider destination of Eitorf offers additional nature and culture experiences. A section of the Siegaue nature reserve between the bridge at Eitorf-Alzenbach and Eitorf-Merten includes meadows rich in common oat-grass, where the great burnet is found. These meadows provide a habitat for the dusky large blue butterfly. In the centre of Eitorf, the 15,000-square-metre Giovanni Vetere Sculpture Garden is located beside a small stream. It features stone and wooden sculptures, stainless-steel objects and bronze sculptures.

The educational trails in the wider destination of Eitorf also offer specific subjects to explore. On Melli’s Bee Nature Trail, you can feel the language of bees, view a wildflower meadow from a bee’s perspective and take on the role of a fuel-station or guard bee in the “honeycomb game.” The forest nature trail at Hüppelröttchen explores trees and other forest topics: it includes 23 “Flip it and learn” panels about trees and 11 vividly illustrated information panels on other forest topics.
