Elkenroth can be explored from several angles: the pond and nature trails, nearby protected areas, and local attractions. When planning your visit, you can decide whether you would rather spend most of your time outdoors or focus more on the places of interest in the village.

Pond and natural areas

Elkenroth Pond covers almost eight hectares. Anglers and nature lovers can relax there; a nature trail runs around the pond and is ideal for longer walks. The pond offers both a waterside landscape and the opportunity to take your time on a longer walk.

Elkenroth’s municipal area also borders four nature reserves: Rosenheimer Lay, Lindianseifen, Weidenbruch and Hasselichskopf. Together, they cover around 200 hectares. Before visiting, it is advisable to check local access conditions. That is equivalent to around two square kilometres.

The E1 circular trail and its points of interest

The E1 circular trail starts at Elkenroth’s community hall. It passes Elkenroth Pond and the Weidenbruch nature reserve, then wetlands, a former clay and sand extraction site, the Hasselichskopf nature reserve, the Hexeneiche natural monument and the former Käuser Steimel quarry before returning to Elkenroth. The route therefore passes several named landscape features and traces of past land use.

Weidenbruch and Hasselichskopf are mentioned both among the nearby nature reserves and along the E1 route: the circular trail passes both. The nature trail goes around the pond and is ideal for longer walks, while the E1 stands out for its succession of landscape features. If you plan to walk the trail, check the local trail conditions and signage.

Attractions in the village

Elkenroth’s attractions include the Catholic parish church of St. Elisabeth, the old Backes (bakehouse), the Canisius Fountain and Steinborn Park. The park’s distinctive features include a Kneipp footbath and former sand mill wheels. These local buildings and other named places complement the nature and walking themes.

If you are planning a family trip, you can choose activities based on shared interests: perhaps walks and natural areas, or individual attractions in the village. This gives you different options for planning your trip without having to commit to just one way of exploring.

Plan your accommodation and stay

Local visitor amenities include a small country hotel with wellness facilities, as well as guesthouses, inns and cafés. Check what is currently available before your trip, as the availability of businesses can change.

Elkenroth also offers different options for planning your days: the pond and the E1 provide nature-focused experiences, while the church, Backes, fountain and park offer other local points of interest. Deciding which ones to focus on can help you tailor your stay to your travel group’s interests.
