Pracht combines signposted hiking trails with a mining history dating back to the 12th century. A stay here therefore offers active exploration alongside local history as two distinct interests. You can compare the routes by length and starting point; mining offers a second historical perspective on the town.

Hiking trails of different lengths

There are four signposted hiking trails in Pracht. Coloured arrows mark changes in direction, and the routes can be walked in either direction. When planning your hike, you can therefore take into account both your preferred direction and the respective starting point.

  • The yellow-marked forest loop runs mostly through woodland around Hassel. It starts at the car park of the Hohegrete forest sports facility.
  • The blue Hohegrete loop starts at the Eckenstell shelter in Wickhausen.
  • The red village-connecting loop starts at the playground by the village square in Pracht.

At approximately 5 km, the blue Hohegrete loop is the shortest of the three. The red loop is about 5.7 km, and the yellow forest loop is around 8.7 km. This gives you a shorter, an intermediate and a longer route to choose from. Together with the stated starting points, the approximate distances provide a practical basis for comparing the routes when planning your day.

Mining history in Pracht

Mining was already being carried out in Pracht in the 12th century. More than 50 mines and mining fields are also recorded. The long history and the number of mines give local history an additional focus alongside the hiking trails.

The former headframe of the Hohegrete mine became a local landmark. It links the mining history to a specific name and a prominent point of reference from the town’s past. For travellers who would like to include local history in their plans as well as hiking, mining is a subject in its own right.
