Iggelbach combines a historic village landscape with circular hiking trails and viewpoints. The old village center includes a historic district that stretches from the Iggelbach valley to the saddle between Bloskülb and Kurzeneck. Bloskülb is 570 meters high, and Kurzeneck is 451 meters high. The settlement’s history and the surrounding hills are thus an integral part of the village’s character.

Local History and Places of Interest

The memorial to the people of Iggelbach who fell in the First World War stands out for its unusual design, featuring symbolic graves. Iggelbach has also had a Protestant church since 1933. Another historic landmark is the bell and clock tower, built in 1899: it stands on Schlossgasse but is no longer in use. The bell tower is also closely associated with forestry work.

The remains of a Palatinate hunting lodge can be seen nearby. They lie on the northwest slope of Bragberg, near the road between Iggelbach and Eschkopf. The hunting lodge had been there since at least 1749. For those who want to combine local history with a walk through the landscape, this is another historic point of interest.

The Kerwe festival is also part of local life and is considered an important event; visitors are welcome. Check the event dates before your trip. Bus route 517 connects Neustadt, Lambrecht and Iggelbach. Check the timetable before setting off.

Choose a Circular Trail by Length and Route

For a circular hike starting in Iggelbach, circular trail 17 goes via Bierenberg and Melchiorfelsen before returning to the starting point; the loop is 9.0 kilometers long. Circular trail 16 is an 11.4-kilometer loop from Elmstein via Bloskülb, Iggelbach and Schafhof, returning to Elmstein. Taking the loop via Appenthal extends this route to 15.1 kilometers. This comparison makes planning straightforward: trail 17 starts and ends in Iggelbach, while trail 16 connects several villages and has two stated route lengths.

Other trails offer different views of the surrounding area. After Stammingerbrunnen, the Kuckucksbähnel Trail continues to Iggelbach. From Kurzeneckkopf along the trail, you can look out over the Palatinate Forest and Iggelbach. Check seasonal trail conditions before setting off. The Palatinate Hut Trail continues from Elmstein to Iggelbach.
