Rheinhessen landscape and regional cuisine

The Nieder-Olm collective municipality lies in the heart of Rheinhessen. Vineyards and long, rolling hills shape the landscape; hiking, cycling and e-bike tours offer different ways to get outdoors. Traditional wineries and wine taverns complement these activities with regional cuisine. This lets you combine your stay with scenery and good food, rather than focusing on just one attraction.

Trails for art, literature and exercise

The Liesel Metten Sculpture Trail takes you on an art walk through the center of Nieder-Olm. It runs from the “Brezelfresser” on Backhausstraße to the “Gänseliesel” on Wassergasse. The artworks give the route its own focus while also leading you through the town.

The Wilhelm Holzamer Literary Trail starts and ends in the town center and is about 18 kilometers long. It follows locations featured in the writer’s stories about Nieder-Olm. The distance is therefore an important factor when planning your day. As trail conditions and signage may change, check the latest route information before setting out.

The collective municipality’s Nordic walking park has two Nordic walking routes. This offers a choice of different experiences: art in the town center, literary locations along a longer route, and Nordic walking in the park. The option that suits your day depends on what you would like to focus on.

Church, historic houses and Wettig forge

St. George’s Church has stood in the same place since around the eighth century; its present form dates from the eighteenth century. The long history of the site and the church’s later form are two distinct stages. Houses in the Recey-Platz area dating from the seventeenth century are considered among the oldest in Nieder-Olm.

Four sandstone wayside crosses have been preserved in Nieder-Olm. One stands at the intersection of Pfarrgasse and Domherrnstraße, in front of Schloss-Hof Meuser. Restoration work may be underway at individual monuments. Another cultural venue is the historic Wettig forge and its adjoining barn. It is used for music, exhibitions, cabaret, coffee and weddings; the uses may vary from event to event.

Rheinhessen-Bad and practical information

Rheinhessen-Bad Nieder-Olm combines indoor and outdoor swimming areas with slides, a lazy river and an outdoor heated pool. Four types of sauna are also available. If you are planning a swim or sauna visit, check the current access rules and availability of facilities beforehand.

Cyclists may also be interested in a municipal notice from 2022: it mentions a bicycle repair station next to an e-bike charging station in the center. If you plan to use this infrastructure, check that it is operational before setting out.
