Weiler bei Bingen: Trails, Wine and Village Life
Accommodation in Weiler bei Bingen
Weiler bei Bingen brings together the Rhine Heights, vineyards, hiking trails and the Binger Wald. The village lies above the mouth of the Nahe at the foot of the HunsrĂĽck, about two kilometres from Bingen. Weiler is considered part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Different interests come together here when planning a trip: a stroll through the village, trails with views of the landscape and experiences in the forest.
Plateau, Winegrowing and Forest
Weiler lies on a plateau. Fields and meadows shape the landscape to the north and west, while extensive vineyards stretch to the east. Around 2,000 hectares of the Binger Wald lie within Weiler’s municipal area. Winegrowing is also part of the village’s character: Weiler produces wines that are part of the Nahe wine-growing region. When planning, you can therefore consider both the vineyard landscape and forest hiking destinations, without reducing the village to just one of these sides.
On Foot Through the Village and into the Landscape
Two hiking trails start at the centrally located village square and offer views towards the Hunsrück, the Nahe and the Rhine. If you would rather explore the village, you can discover carved artworks on a stroll. These routes have different focuses: one offers views of the surrounding area, the other takes in the village’s artworks.
The Rhein-Nahe-Schleife is considered a route through vineyards, with wide-ranging views in every direction and rest areas at scenic spots. A car park at the village square provides access to the route. Weiler Mitte bus stop is about 50 metres from the village square. Check the latest timetable details and parking situation before setting off.
Hiking Experiences in the Binger Wald
The Steckeschlääferklamm is an adventure trail alongside and over the Haselbach, featuring wooden bridges and carved faces. Stairs and narrow sections are also part of the route. It is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchair users; check the conditions before your visit. These restrictions are important to bear in mind when planning together if your family is interested in a trail with these features.
Another option is the Binger Wald adventure trail: the circular route is 4.5 kilometres long and leads through the forest. Its features include a Roman villa rustica and a suspension bridge over a gorge. The trail can be reached via several forest and hiking paths, as well as two paved access roads. Official car parks are located at Bodmannstein and by the Heilig Kreuz forester’s lodge. Then check the location of your chosen accommodation and the latest conditions for access roads and parking.
Village Festival and Remembrance in the Village Landscape
The recurring village festival takes place in September and turns the village square into a gathering place for three days. Music, food and drink, tradition and community activities are its main features. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, note that it takes place in September and check the specific event dates before travelling.
A reminder of the village’s history can also be discovered on a stroll: a cross was installed on the exterior wall of the church at the intersection of Kirchstraße and Hildegardisstraße in the late 19th century as a memorial to a people’s mission. Together with the artworks in the village and hiking destinations in the forest, this offers a choice between exploring the village, enjoying the landscape and spending active days outdoors.
