Oberfell can be explored via a variety of routes, expansive views of the Moselle and local culture. Three HVV routes share the same start and end points above St. Nicholas Church, but differ in length and course. From the Bleidenberg plateau, you can look out over the Moselle Valley; there is also a trail following in the footsteps of old legends and a small local history museum. The village therefore offers a range of ways to shape your stay, whether you are more interested in exercise, scenery or history.

Comparing the Three HVV Routes

All three HVV routes begin and end above St. Nicholas Church in Oberfell. The Green Route is 4.9 km long. It passes, among other places, along the Liebespfad and by the Kneipp footbath, the Waldelefant, the Celtic Wall and the viewing platform; it also crosses the Bleidenberg plateau.

The Red HVV Route covers 6.4 km. Its course includes the Panorama Trail, as well as the shelter at Wachsnilles, the wayside cross and the Lebensturm on Schildberg. It also passes the Ameisenweg and the KurfĂĽrstenruh shelter.

At 7.9 km, the Blue HVV Route is the longest of the three. It passes, among other places, along the Panorama Trail and by the Lebensturm on Schildberg, the Rotläufje and the shelters on Dickenberg.

The route lengths provide a direct comparison: the Green Route is the shortest, the Red is in between, and the Blue is the longest. The waypoints also differ. When choosing, you can therefore take into account both the length of each route and the listed stops, rather than treating the three routes as interchangeable.

Views, Vineyards and Old Legends

The Bleidenberg viewing platform is on the Bleidenberg plateau and offers expansive views over the Moselle Valley. The “Bleidenberger Ausblicke” dream trail offers a different experience: it starts at the church in Oberfell and climbs up a slope covered in vineyards. Along the way, views of the Moselle open up. The view from the plateau and the vistas along the ascent thus offer two different impressions of the landscape.

The “Sagenhafte Weg” also follows in the footsteps of old legends through and around Oberfell. Its theme sets it apart from the HVV routes described by length and stops: here, the focus is on the connection between the trail and the stories. When planning your activities, you can weigh up specific route lengths, views of the Moselle and a trail themed around legends.

Local History Museum and Trinity Sunday

The Old Rectory in Oberfell now houses a small local history museum as a cultural centre, featuring, among other things, archaeological finds from the Bleidenberg plateau. A cultural visit thus complements the impressions from the trails and viewpoints. Check access arrangements before visiting.

On Trinity Sunday, pilgrims process solemnly through the forest to the Church of the Holy Trinity on Bleidenberg; in Oberfell, the day is observed as a public holiday. This local custom offers a further insight into the village’s cultural life, alongside the traces of old legends and the archaeological finds in the local history museum.
