Fachbach offers several ways to shape your stay: the Fachbacher Rundweg follows an old postal route, the Nieverner HĂĽtte represents a long industrial history, and the Willi-Hufnagel-Weg offers views across the Lahn Valley. When choosing accommodation, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on. Would you like to put walking routes and local history at the heart of your trip, or should water activities also be part of your plans?

Walking routes and local stories

The Fachbacher Rundweg starts and ends at the Dorfplatz car park. Free parking for the route is available there; check the parking situation locally before you arrive. The route follows an old postal road and passes the Marien-Felsen-Kapelle. A local legend tells of women who hid from soldiers during the Thirty Years’ War, linking their story to the chapel.

The Willi-Hufnagel-Weg offers views across the Lahn Valley and is named after Willi Hufnagel. He is remembered as a passionate hiker who championed the preservation of nature and local traditions. He also wrote the first local-history account of the village of Fachbach. The two routes have different focuses: the old postal road and chapel shape the theme of the circular route, while views of the valley and the local history of its namesake take centre stage on the Willi-Hufnagel-Weg.

Industrial heritage and the history of winegrowing

The Nieverner Hütte lies within the municipal district of Fachbach and is considered one of the most impressive industrial monuments in Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in 1671, it initially manufactured cannons and later produced cast-iron goods such as cookware, building components, stoves and railings. It closed in 1932. This progression brings the shift in production into focus: cannons gave way to products for the home, buildings and their fittings. Fachbach also became known for winegrowing, adding another facet to the village’s history alongside its industrial past.

Water activities and tour options

Alahna SUP rents inflatable and rigid SUP boards for one hour or longer. The provider also offers guided tours on the Lahn and daily beginner courses. Kanuverleih GM Sports offers Canadian canoes for two, three, four or five people, as well as single and double kayaks. It also offers day and multi-day tours, group outings and company trips. Rental options, courses and tours may change, so check current availability before your trip.

There are several points of comparison: with Alahna SUP, you can weigh up rental duration, tours and courses; with GM Sports, boats differ in capacity and tours in format. This helps you plan the water-based part of your trip while keeping walking routes and cultural history in view.

Getting there and planning a larger trip

Both routes, the Fachbacher Rundweg and the Willi-Hufnagel-Weg, can be reached by train to Nievern, followed by a walk to Fachbach. Check the timetable for your travel date before setting off. If you arrive by car, the Dorfplatz car park is the starting and finishing point of the Fachbacher Rundweg; check the parking situation locally.

The wider Rhein-Lahn destination includes the area on the right bank of the Rhine at the mouth of the Lahn, the Lahn Valley up to just before Limburg near Diez, as well as the southern foothills of the Westerwald and the northern uplands of the Taunus between the Rhine and the Aar. The Roman Limes also crosses the district of Rhein-Lahn-Kreis. Its remains are still visible today and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper German-Raetian Limes.
