You can discover Waldsee through its local history and the waterscape of the surrounding area. The local history museum introduces visitors to life and work in earlier times; bathing lakes and paths along the shore offer a different focus. For trip planning, there is also a regional cycling network connecting specific routes with further touring options. The Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis is centrally located between the natural paradises of the Palatinate Forest and the Odenwald. Along the Rhine, the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis has scenic Rhine floodplains with areas resembling primeval forest.

Local History at the Museum

The Waldsee Local History Museum presents rural life in Waldsee, near the Rhine floodplains north of Speyer. Exhibits include traditional local crafts from the Waldsee area and everyday objects from the early 20th century, as well as maps, plans and old finds. Everyday items are displayed alongside materials that offer further insights into the history of the town.

An original classroom corner illustrates school life in the past. The archaeological section focuses on the remains of Affolterloch motte-and-bailey castle. The museum therefore offers a perspective ranging from the history of schooling and everyday life to archaeological traces. Visitors interested in different periods will find several points of connection here, without the visit being limited to a single topic.

Camping Area and Bathing Lakes

Waldsee I and II “Auf der Au” form a camping area by the water in a protected landscape between Altrip and Waldsee. Together, they cover around 52 hectares, including approximately 25 hectares of water. Thus, roughly half of the total area is water. Walks by the water, a network of paths and sanitary facilities round out the description of the area.

Schlicht bathing lake lies between Neuhofen and Waldsee. Its water surface covers 26 hectares, and the beach spans 54,000 square metres. The lake has sanitary facilities, paid visitor parking and a beach volleyball court. Diving is permitted with advance registration and for a fee. Check the applicable parking rules before your visit; for diving, make sure to arrange registration and payment in advance.

Cycling in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis

Waldsee is one of the places from which cyclists can access the Velo-Route Rhein. The Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis also offers a dense cycling network, which includes the Kraut-und-RĂĽben cycle route. Numerous cycling routes run through fields and floodplains. This lets you choose between a named route and other regional trails for your ride. In the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis, the Kraut-und-RĂĽben cycle route runs through green fields and villages, as well as along the Rhine.

The Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis has virtually no natural inclines. Cyclists in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis often use paths alongside or away from roads. If you’d like to include local cuisine as well as cycling: inns and restaurants in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis serve fresh seasonal produce.
