In Klipphausen, hiking trails wind through valleys and explore themes such as geology, mining and poetry. The area also features mills and cultural heritage sites. When planning your trip, you can focus on different things: make a particular hike the centrepiece, or use cultural sites as the starting point for your plans. This way, you can choose accommodation based on what you want to define your stay.

Hiking trails through valleys and landscapes

The Constappel–Klipphausen–Röhrsdorf–Constappel route passes through the Saubach Valley to Klipphausen and returns through the Regenbach Valley. A historic mill along the route dates back to around 1700 and can be visited during the annual Mill Day. The Triebischtal Geotrail offers a different focus: it is designed as an educational trail covering geology and mining history.

The Triebischtäler Route follows a protected, largely undeveloped valley landscape within the Triebischtäler Landscape Protection Area. It begins at the Buschbad bus turning loop in Meißen and ends at Rothschönberg Castle; bus services make it possible to return to the starting point. If you plan to hike the entire route, you should also plan your return journey: the route information recommends using public transport, as there are only small parking areas at the endpoints.

On the trail through the Wilde Saubachtal, the landscape is shaped by green meadows, hillside woodland and vegetation along the banks of a pebbly stream. The route is part of the Saxon Way of St James from Königsbrück to Wilsdruff. The Neudeckmühle is both a place to eat on an outing and a hiking trail junction. The Wulf Kirsten Hiking Trail starts at the quarry in Klipphausen. Its stops invite visitors to read and reflect on poems; part of the trail can also be covered as part of a guided alpaca hike.

Mills, mining and cultural heritage

The mills and mining sites offer other points of interest. The Schulzemühle is considered Germany’s smallest watermill that can be visited and still produces flour. The Old Miltitz Limestone Mine presents the history of limestone and silver mining in the 19th and 20th centuries and provides a venue for concerts and other events. With the portal of the Rothschönberg Tunnel, Klipphausen is also connected to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region.
