Discover Zwota through its hiking trails, nature, local dialect and musical instrument history. Recurring festivals also offer specific occasions to get to know the town. This gives you a range of options to choose from when planning your trip: exploring local routes, following a nature trail, visiting exhibitions and attending events. Which of these you want to shape your stay can also guide your search for accommodation in Zwota.

Hiking trails of varying lengths

There are well-signposted hiking trails in and around Zwota. These include the certified Klingenthal-Zwota circular trail, also known as the Höhensteig, and the Vogtland Panorama Trail. Six local routes range from 9.2 to 13.5 km: “Around the Zwota Valley,” “Hoher Brand” in the Elster Mountains, “Sankt-Peters-Brunnen near Kottenheide,” “Raubschloss in the Klausenbach Valley,” “Source of the Zwota,” and “Glasbachtal and Herrenberg.” Route 6, “Glasbachtal and Herrenberg,” is 9.2 km long. The Höhensteig circular trail is certified as a “Quality Trail: Hiker-friendly Germany.”

Nature in the HĂĽttenbachtal

The Hüttenbachtal nature trail runs from 600 to 800 m above sea level. Its 21 information panels cover flora, fauna, history and geology. The trail thus combines nature topics with insights into the history and structure of the landscape. The “Hüttenbach” nature reserve covers 43.44 hectares and is part of the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park. The “Lange Bank” offers another view over the surrounding area: at 40.13 m long, it provides a panorama of Klingenthal and Zwota.

Local dialect, musical instruments and exhibitions

The Zwota local dialect and experience center displays books featuring local dialect literature, films from the region and regularly changing special exhibitions. Its focus is on language and regional film. The Zwota Harmonica Museum has a collection of more than 1,000 instruments. These include harmonicas, diatonic hand harmonicas and concertinas from the 19th century. The collection also includes instruments from the “Arnold” bandoneon factory in Carlsfeld in the Erzgebirge, as well as various types of accordion, including top models from the former Klingenthal Harmonica Works.

In the town center, the Eibisch Depot is located in the former Denk brewery. The exhibition features historic woodworking tools and toys, along with an annual Christmas exhibition. Visits are by appointment. Together, the exhibitions offer different ways to explore Zwota: local dialect and films, the development of musical instruments, or tools and toys from traditional crafts.

Festivals and special experiences

The Zwota fair is a three-day festival running from Friday to Sunday, with music and a festival tent. It takes place ten weeks after Pentecost. The local dialect and film evening is scheduled annually for December 27. If you plan to time your trip to coincide with one of these events, check the event date in advance.

Georg Carsten Eibisch leads tours of Zwota, either as a night watchman with a dark lantern or as a barrel-organ player accompanied by music. The history of the forest stage can also be placed in context: the first event at the open-air theater took place on August 21, 2021; regular performances resumed in 2022.
