Bisdorf brings together rural architectural history, local history, art and a farm café. Two listed brick barns differ in their design and roofs; the Bisdorf Summer Studio displays Fehmarn-inspired paintings and ceramics. The village also offers specific options for planning cycling and bus trips. This means it has both cultural attractions and practical information to help you plan your day.

Brick barns with different roof styles

The listed barn at Bisdorf 8 dates from 1923. It is a substantial, gable-end brick building with wall-strip detailing and a mansard roof. At Bisdorf 47, there is another listed barn, dating from 1911: a two-storey, gable-end brick building with a raised wall section and a shallow pitched roof. Both feature brick construction and gable-end orientation, but their roof styles and structures differ. “Gable-end” describes a building oriented with its gable end facing forward. A mansard roof has roof sections with different pitches; a raised wall section is the low section of wall between the exterior wall and the roof. The façade of the building at Bisdorf 8 is divided by wall strips. The differences are therefore apparent not only in the dates, but also in the number of storeys, roof style and façade detailing.

Local history and art

A report on a village walk from 2020 describes Bisdorf around 1232 as a square-shaped village laid out on a north–south axis. Historically, the place was known as “villa episcopi” and granted as a fief to the Bishop of Funen. The description of the village around 1232 and the barns from 1911 and 1923 belong to distinctly different periods; together, they offer a glimpse of the village layout and individual buildings.

The Bisdorf Summer Studio of Joachim Fritz displays Fehmarn-inspired paintings and ceramics in watercolour, pencil and oil. If you would like to include a visit to the studio in your stay, check in advance whether visits are possible.

Farm café and getting around

Surrounded by meadows, the Bisdorf Farm Café is a rural café offering up to fourteen different cakes and tarts each day, as well as ice cream, coffee and tea. Guests can also see goats, chickens and geese there. If you want to plan your café visit in advance, check the latest information; the menu and opening arrangements may change.

The farm café has an e-bike charging station. The Grüner Brink cycling route also recommends taking a break at the Bisdorf Farm Café. When planning your ride, you can therefore take into account both a charging point and a specifically named place to stop. Check the latest route details before setting off.

Since 1 August 2025, Bisdorf has been included in the free local bus scheme within the “Fehmarn-Burg” fare zone. If you plan to travel by local bus, check the current fare rules before your journey.
