Grömitz brings the Baltic Sea and the beach together in an appealing way. An eight-kilometre-long stretch of fine sandy beach lies along a south-facing section of the Baltic coast. This coastline gives the town a clear focus on days by the water, while the pier and regional culture offer further ideas for planning your trip.

Beach days at your own pace

At the beach, you can swim, stroll, relax in beach chairs, visit cafés and go pedal boating. You can enjoy a peaceful day with a walk and some time in a beach chair, or focus more on swimming and pedal boating. Beach services and safety arrangements may vary seasonally, so it is worth keeping the season in mind when planning these parts of your stay.

The pier as an attraction in its own right

The 398-metre-long Grömitz Pier offers something different. It has a sun deck, rotating seats, climbing nets, a lighthouse slide and an underwater observation gondola. This means you can enjoy a variety of experiences: get active on the climbing nets and slide, take a break on the sun deck or look beneath the water’s surface.

Boat trips regularly depart from the pier; boat services are seasonal. If you are planning a trip, it is worth checking the current departure times. This lets you combine time at the beach with another coastal experience, without making the day revolve around a single activity.

Getting here and choosing accommodation

By car, you can reach Grömitz via the Neustadt-Pelzerhaken/Grömitz exit on the A1, then continue for approximately ten kilometres on the B 501. By train, travel to Neustadt/Holstein station. From there, the onward journey by local bus or taxi takes about 20 minutes. Check the road route and public transport connections before you travel.

When looking for accommodation, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: should the coast, with its beach and pier, shape your stay, or would you also like to consider cultural and nature-related attractions in the wider Ostholstein area? Your preferred way of getting around is another practical factor to include in your plans.

Ostholstein: a closer look at culture and nature

The wider Ostholstein travel destination also offers cultural attractions in their own right. Every summer, the Eutin Festival presents a variety of opera and operetta performances as open-air events. The Ostholstein Museum in Eutin features changing exhibitions as well as a permanent exhibition about Eutin during its heyday around 1800.

The Eutin Lake Circular Trail offers a different perspective on the wider Ostholstein travel destination. It runs along the Großer Eutiner See, partly right by the shore and partly on natural trails through the forest. Along the way, it offers views of Eutin, Eutin Castle and the castle gardens.

One cultural attraction in the municipality of Grömitz is Cismar Monastery: it hosts changing exhibitions and holds concerts in its vaulted hall during the winter season.
